The boys from Brazil 🇧🇷

Think of a past World Cup and the one shirt that jumps out from your memory is likely to be the golden yellow of the boys from Brazil.

For many ( me included) Brazil is the one side we all want to watch ( aside from England) those samba skills might not be as mysterious as they once were with a more Europeans edge to their game but it’s still the hottest ticket in town.

Brazil Serbia is the last game to be played in round 1.

I genuinely don't feel this way about Brazil anymore. I expect an industrious side who aren't focused on playing 'the beautiful game' and I think that is their best chance of success. I could actually see a draw tonight or even an upset. Their squad is decent on paper (especially in attacking areas) but they have a recent history of choking under the pressure at major tournaments which is a trait that is difficult to shake off. Last time they were in this position they had Romario, I don't think they have a player of that calibre at the moment.

The World Cup would not be the same without the boys from Brazil. Their flair and skill, playing football as it should be played, brilliant strip (always my favourite) beautiful fans who dance in the stands, no violence, no excess drinking, just fun, fun, fun.

They do I still in neymar who can still win a game in his own he is the last of that magic Brazilian petulant enigma but I agree the style is a lot more pragmatic and European that it was.

I've actually just been published for the first time in a national newspaper talking about Brazil at this world cup.

Managed to sneak Juninho in there as well.

Give it a click and a read if you're so inclined and feeling generous with your time 👍

I just don't think he has the same x factor as Ronaldo/Ronaldinho, Romario and obviously the likes of Pele and Garrincha etc. He's a product of the modern game's tendency to overhype teenagers I think. Ronaldo was never really 'hyped' until he'd come to Europe and done it in Netherlands then Barca, until then most people hadn't heard of him. Such is the way news flows now, everyone knew about Neymar before he'd even left Santos. He's a good player but he's not as good as people hoped/thought/expected, and his attitude is pretty awful imho. If he's their best (which he is), I don't see them winning this tournament.

I think you’ll be surprised as lots of people mention the Real Madrid youth options up front but Brazils key forward along side neymar has been richarlison as tite usually employs a front three rotating of 4 players

Neymar richarlison with either raphinha/Vincius jnr.

So I’d expect the same tonight.

Good stuff. It's worth a big version of the Juninho picture as well I reckon.

I agree with that but my point is he’s the last in that mould as the rest are about pace and power whereas neymar has that link to the fantasy players of the past albeit at a lesser scale he’s still the enigmatic no 10 that Brazil thrives on.

Yes I read something about how they're building the side around Richarlison in the Athletic. Another good player, but I don't see him as being anywhere near the sort of maestro they've won world cups with before. Obviously they have a chance but they're not my pick. I can honestly see them struggling tonight.

They'll probably win 5-0 now. :ROFLMAO:

Tite absolutely loves him as I say it may surprise people but look at their past squads and it’s normally neymar richarlison and one of raphinha/Vincius.

The first World Cup I watched was USA 94 and England weren't playing. I loved watching Brazil, then Ronaldo was the best player in the World and we signed Juninho, Emerson etc so Brazil were always my favourite team to watch. They definitely aren't the same as they used to be but it's got to be difficult to keep producing players of the calibre they did.

I'd disagree about Neymar being over-rated. He is fantastic but his attitude, particularly the cheating/diving, lets him down. He probably reduced his reputation a bit by going to PSG for the money instead of staying in Barca. Would have all worked out if they had gone on to win the Champions League but that obviously hasn't happened. He's also had a lot of injuries since he joined PSG. He has only played half a season every year since he joined them.

He was well known before he left Santos because he actually stayed there quite a while. He was in the Brazil squad at 18 but didn't leave to join Barca until he was 21 (after scoring 136 goals for Santos in 225 games, playing 30 games for Brazil and winning the Puskas Award).

It may also surprise people that Brazil havent faced any European opposition since way back in march 2019 when they beat the Czechs 3-1 and the only other European side they faced before that was when they lost to Belgium in The last World Cup quarter final.

I think Neymar is grossly under valued as a player.
His record is fantastic and as you say probably overlooked. As Nano says I think thats down to his character. Brazilians although skilful and full of fun were hard b***ds who didn't mind being kicked and mixing it. Neymar is just a cheat, his antics are appalling and that for me is not something i want to see especially from a Brazilian with so much talent.

Aye. His play acting is ridiculous and I don't particularly like him.

But as a player he's up there with some of Brazil's best. He'd have won at least one Ballon d'Or if not for Messi and Ronaldo dominating the last decade.

Personally I enjoy seeing Brazil knocked out of the World Cup as I very quickly get sick of commentators fawning over their players as if they are some superior breed to the rest of the world. And it's never not fun to see Neymar crying.

Historically they have had some sublime players, but since 1970 the two times they won the World Cup they were generally more pragmatic and relied on the talents of Romario or Ronaldo to see them over the line.

Admittedly they are potential winners of Qatar22, but personally I don't see them having significantly betters chance than England, France and Spain, despite being far shorter odds with the bookies.
