The Banshees of Inisherin

My understanding of the film is that it’s an allegory of the Irish Civil War (which is referenced in the film as being fought on the mainland at that time) ie one time friends and neighbours fighting one another, to their mutual detriment and destruction over causes that are never fully understood. If it’s viewed from that perspective it makes a lot more sense.

I loved it by the way.
I never really knew this. Kind of makes a bit more sense now.

I think a lot of people didn't like it because it isn't in bruges and is a lot less funny.
It's a dark fairy tale.
That's me. I love all his stuff but particularly In Bruges
I was disappointed with Banshees, but might watch it again as you're probably right, I shouldn't have compared and enjoyed it for what it was

Possibly my favourite film, which often provokes odd reactions from others when I say that.
Strange but expertly delivered concept, great acting and everything looks fantastic.

My partner pointed out this analogy too.

At first I though it was just set in the early 1900s just to give it some kid of time frame. But thinking about it, there were parallels between the story and the Irish Civil War taking place at the time.

(SPOILER ALERT)

Strange that nobody has mention the sister’s role in it. When she crosses over the water to make a better life for herself (wearing bright yellow to signify freedom and positivity?) was a huge part of the film for me.

Maybe I’m a bit sad for looking at these small details but it was almost a bit ‘Schindler's List’ albeit using those colours in a positive way. Especially when you consider how much of the character’s lives were shot in dreary, drab colours.

Ok, so just in case anyone was waiting on the edge of their seat….

Finally watched this last night after recording it a month ago.

Absolute garbage! No plot at all!

Maybe just too highbrow for me……

Don't worry The Expendables 5 and the 11th Fast and Furious film are both out soon, you might enjoy them a bit more
Actually not a fan of those either, but at least the plots are understandable!

Each to their own, but I’m personally not into films where everyone watches and then they can have a debate about what was going on. Films should be obvious. Star Wars, MI, Bourne etc. No debate about what’s happening!

I am not a fan of Banshees film, but murky plots can sometimes work if it gets you into the head of the characters.

For example "The Father" - to get an understanding of dementia

The last Dunkirk film - I actually could feel how a typical solder felt going through the whole experience which was at first confusing as it was for many ordinary solders at the time.

The Banshees film felt a parody of Irish rural life in the 1910s and 1920s - everybody wanting to know everybody else's business, insular, restricted, almost twisted.
