Dear Admin
I had a thread pulled ( Johnny Foreigner) a perfectly amiable thread that I’m sure all contributors could vouch for
But fair enough the rules are this isn’t a democracy
However the dismissive way I was dealt with when I question why was unbelievably rude
Just the other day an established poster was dealt with, mid thread, in such an aggressive way as would invite a ban on a regular non admin poster.

If this is the way you are intending treating contributors then jolly good luck to you, as you will need it.

Have you emailed them rather than start threads as suggested in the rules?
Yes, their response is as appears on the “where is the Johnny Foreigner” thread.
it appears the words “ Johnny Foreigner “ , a term used constantly in an ironic way was what flustered the feathers here.

If I subscribed to a forum that made me angry, I'd probably go somewhere else tbh.
Your quite right Harry, but it isnt the forum, its way the dismissive tone used and the idea that a totally inoffensive thread is disappeared because of the whim of a jobsworth that bothers me.
See how you feel when a thread you are enjoying is pulled and when you politely ask why ( had someone among the amusing anecdotes been grossly offensive?) you’re dealt with like an idiot.
But such is life , some very amusing and interesting people on here , pity.

This is where I agree communication is needed, if you delete a thread or ban someone I honestly believe engaging is the best solution

admin have their reasons why they don’t, they don’t want to be open to abuse. Also I see it as not wanting to be accountable for their decisions that they make.

'jobsworth'. See, if I was seeking to positively influence the actions of admin, I wouldn't have chosen that word.
And tbh it's unlikely I would have enjoyed a thread with that title, so can't really relate to the concept of being unhappy at it being pulled. But if I was enjoying it and it was pulled, I imagine I'd just think 'oh well' and move on with my day. I wouldn't start a whole new one purely to question the decision.

He's questioning the attitude and lack of communication as much as the decision surely?

Tbf I once was frustrated by admins lack of response. I was put on the naughty step and it wasn't explained why, or how it had happened. I just couldn't log in once. I find it frustrating that you don't even get an email explanation for these things.

However, that's how it's always been ran. As far as admin go it's probably the best of any Boro message board I've seen. Allowing lively and frank debate whilst not allowing the extremism and bigotry of, say Red Roar.

Is admin perfect? No.

Should we be grateful that this is one of the best ran and easiest to use Boro Message boards? Yes, absolutely.

My view is that a piece of the board history has been deleted, that admin were uncomfortable with, which if they are, then is fair enough. However, If they have the power to delete, surely they have the power to edit or the power to request the poster edits so as to no longer cause the concern. If the poster complies, edits and/or apologises giving a reason why on the thread, that is accurate and not a bitter moan, then the thread remains there for us all to read and enjoy, the offence removed and others can see and educate oneself in the process as the poster will have stated a reason for his/her/their edit. It can be done without the offending terms actually used and the rest of the board will hopefully understand. I just think it gives balance.

Of course, from an admin perspective i guess the time and effort in persuading a poster to comply might not be straightforward, in which case deletions and bans or warnings will still rightly happen.

just my humble musings, admins job is not an easy one though, that is for sure.

Got to say my experience was completely different. I posted a link to another boro forum which displayed racist language and I was given a couple of days away. Communication with admin was spot on and the whole thing was explained to me. I'd be happy to post the email if anyone wanted to see that they do communicate.

I wouldn't. I don't think you can link other message boards.

I would not do so without their approval first as the communication with admin may have been expected to be private tbf to them.

Hopefully they have changed. They certainly never extended me that courtesy a year back.
