The Ashes 2023

Next year The Ashes will start on the 1st June and be finished by end of July at the latest, all so The Hundred gets a free run in August.

This just seems wrong to me, The Ashes is the pinnacle of test cricket in this country and to have it condensed like this feels like the ECB are just accepting that Test cricket is no longer important.

Bigger issue for me is £90 a ticket. Seems steep when I only paid £40 for New Zealand. Appreciate there is an extra for the Ashes but that just feels like exploitation. Is it normally that much of a jump for the Ashes?

The ashes have always cost a bomb, I had to pay £50 a ticket in 2013 to see the winning day at Chester-le-Street and was £100 to see it **** down for most of the day at Old Trafford in 2019.

Cricket is much better watched at home on TV.

Might try and do two days at different venues next year (finances permitting!)

Edgbaston Sat is my birthday so an extra incentive to see Harry Brook's triple hundred in person :)

Just trying to remember how much I paid.. didn't see the end unfortunately as had to rush for the train - they didn't change its time so many left early.

Went to Day 4 v New Zealand earlier this year. Tickets for ‘Howard Upper Wings’ were £25. They asking for £100 v Aussies for same seats, same day! Not happening.

Its worth reading in full the cricket review which came out today with Andrew Strauss leading it.

The findings that I was dismayed at

County games cut to 10 - 5 home and 5 away - so less long form cricket

The 50 over Cup Competition (RLC) moved to April!!

Whole game built around the T20 bash and 100 because that's where the money is

Cheers for this AT, I’ll have a read when I get chance. I’ve heard the headlines around the county games so this will be worth looking at.

Barmy Army “plc” are rip off merchants.

You’re paying for the trumpeter and all the “top lads” to travel the world on a free p*ss up.

I don’t like how the national team associates so closely with them
