The 9am figures not disclosed yet?

From the ECDC.

It is possible to delve into the excel sheets and see the data for ICU admissions too. Slight increase recently, expected with a rise in cases. Way below levels seen in April despite considerable 'opening up' of societies. I'll post some data for Spain shortly.

Recent data for spain.....

Lots of news headlines for when cases were rising, less so when cases have been dropping (there have been some reports there could be a revision to the numbers, lets see). How has that translated into hospital admissions.....

We'll see from the next ECDC update how that has changed in the early part of Sept.

Similar patterns for Germany, Italy, Belgium. Makes for less dramatic news headlines than when cases are rising though. Again, this is all within the context of an 'opening up' of society.

At the start of all this I was critical of a ridiculously slow response of government (and under estimation of the risk) in the face of enough data to show the growing threat of SARS-CoV-2 and now find myself in the odd position of being critical because of an overestimation of risk!

I am not saying it poses no risk, I am not saying there will or won't be a "2nd wave" but we have to act on the data that is currently available and I just don't see how the current available data justifies the restrictions that will be put in place from Monday. It makes no sense.

I keep reading/hearing from the usual suspects in the media that we shouldn't worry too much about the rise in infections, because hospital admissions are still falling.

Two weeks ago, the 7-day average for hospital admissions in the UK was 93 per day. On the 7th September (the latest data available), the 7-day average for hospital admissions was 133 per day. That's a rise of 41.5% in a fortnight and the most recent data doesn't include Scotland, so the actual figure will be a little higher.

All of this information is publicly available. I do wish that journalists would do their research and challenge some of these statements being broadcast without any evidence to support them.
