The 9am figures not disclosed yet?

This week deaths are on course to be c.25% less than they were last week (449), even so they are still likely to be over 50% higher than the week before lockdown (242). However there is no indication that lockdown is going to be made more stringent to stop people dying.

I think the Govt/SAGE are focused on the R-Rate, which was last updated on Friday 31 July 2020 and for the UK is 0.8-0.9. As long as that stays below 1, then they are "happy" with the general level of infections & death and will only act if there are local hot spots of community transmission.
Yeah I haven't seen anything about the R number in ages.

Interesting graph when it comes to cases in regards to % positive cases from number of tests for those worried of a second wave.

Today's headline analysis:

• 950 new cases reported in 24-hour period, up from yesterday's 891
• 7-day average for new cases increases by 1.8% to 835 per day, following 2.3% increase yesterday (and 19th increase in the past 21 days)
• 7-day average for new cases is 13.4% higher than one week ago (from 13.0% higher yesterday) and 27.2% higher than two weeks ago (from 28.5% higher yesterday and 26.0% higher 7 days ago)
• 49 new deaths in all settings reported in 24-hour period, down from 65 yesterday
• 7-day average for new deaths in all settings increases by 2.7% to 59 per day, following 4.3% decrease yesterday
• 7-day average for new deaths in all settings is 7.0% lower than one week ago (from 12.4% lower yesterday) and 4.6% lower than two weeks ago (from 9.8% lower yesterday and 13.9% lower 7 days ago)

But actually... IMG_20200806_143508.jpg

Why is the test positive rate important.

the way testing has been conducted for the last month is about the same and cases are going up. The good news it isn’t exponential but it’s increasing, which makes it hard to unlock more stuff while it is

The test positive rate gives context to the case numbers.

Think about it.. tomorrow if the government tested 5,000,000 people you would get thousands of false positives alone. Without the positive case rate this could cause a lot of fear.

What the percentage of false positives at the moment

what about the thousands of false negatives to counter that?

I get what you are saying but if you apply the law of probability around false negative and false positive then cases that are actually positive are still going up

Hospital admissions still going down.

Read again.. the point wasn't about false positives.

Where I wrote false positives just replace with positives if that helps you understand what I'm saying. 👍🏻

ye I still think it’s the younger population and people generally being fitter/better immune systems right now to deal with it. I think things are on a fine edge in terms of winter Shielders are coming out we need to maintain social distancing. Even so cases are slowly going up.

what I’m really hopeful for is that tcells have played as big part as some have reported. We need to know more though

Pillar 2 cases going up.

I think I’ve read for every 10 who test positive only 8 actually have it?

No sir what I'm saying is and if you read the graph..

That despite cases increasing slightly the number of positive cases Vs number of tests done is actually not increasing its just more tests being done which is being shown in the graph.

I.e. There isn't an increase in the % of people testing positive.

If you read the posts again it might now make more sense.

Drip drip drip the guardian with a misleading headline but in the meat of article:-

Over 1 million fewer patients underwent planned surgery in England in April, May and June, and 30,000 to 40,000 could not start cancer treatment as hospitals discharged thousands of patients and suspended many of their usual services to concentrate on treating those with Covid-19.

Unavailability of care, in tandem with patients’ reluctance to go into hospital, have been linked to the fact that in England 12,000 more peoplethan usual have died of illness not linked to Covid in recent months, such as heart attacks, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

One cancer expert has estimated that anywhere between 7,000 and 35,000 patients could die over the next year as a direct result of missing out on NHS care in recent months.

“The NHS had to stop almost all planned surgery at the beginning of the Covid crisis, and we just cannot let that happen again. Things will need to be done differently in the face of any further spike,” Mortensen told the Guardian.'

Oh if only someone had been saying this for months @bear66.. look even your favourite publication is having to backtrack some of their disgraceful coverage

That link is more than three months old. The Guardian has been saying this for months. Another example of how this Government has made dreadful decisions.
