Hi Sportsfans, and welcome to the 50th EDITION of Nobby's Notebook......I hope yoos are all out celebrating our first win of the season and 50 NOT OUT for the Nobb πŸ‘

50 Caps is a great achievement in anyone's book, who would have thought I would still be going into a third season. I'm even being quoted by other journalists....Hi Dana πŸ˜‰

A welcome return to tried and tested Championship players was the main reason we picked up the 3 points. Experience and 'know how' was desperately required, especially when we needed to close the game out. πŸ‘

Onto Saints, and an impressive away following from the visitors but we managed to keep them quiet for the most part, along with captain and talisman James Ward-Prowse who I didn't really notice tbh πŸ‘

A couple of previous Notebook choices were on view here, Bald Eagle No. 16 Will Smallbone who looked the business in the first half with a couple of shots, he sent Che Adams through on goal which he thankfully fluffed. Smallbone faded after HT and became less influential, eventually being hooked.

Also, No 3 Ryan Manning who was surprisingly left on the bench until the second half.

On paper the Saints front 3 of Adam Armstrong, Che Adams and 'Geordie reject' Ryan Fraser looks as good as anything in the division, but other than Armstrong's smart finish for the opener, they looked poor.

Nobby's Choice this week was right back No.2 Kyle Walker-Peters, with the blond 'Yazz' style hairdo πŸ‘

He was involved throughout, and kept going right to the end. Small in stature but very quick and comfortable on the ball he was a constant threat down the right in the 2nd half and Saints main attacking outlet. Looked a neat player and great in tight situations he's in the notebook this week guys...

Walker-Peters came through the Spurs academy and made 12 apps before joining Southampton, first on loan and then transferred for 12 Million Bar in 2020 on a 5 year contract. 2 full England caps

The only way is up !

I said early in the game Walker-Peters seems to play left back and right back regularly - as if there is no other regular on either side
Lo and behold he was left back in the first half and right back in the second

Walker Peters and Jones had a right old ding dong, both good players on the top of their games πŸ‘

I've always rated Kyle Walker-Peters and surprised he's remained at Southampton and not left for a prem team. However felt today Jones had the better of him

Well done for spotting the best right back in the league as one to keep an eye on.

Maybe we could put a cheeky bid in πŸ‘€πŸ‘€
I just report on what I see, reputations mean nothing to me πŸ‘

PS I used to live in the USA
Uther Side of Ayton....
Haha Hilarious πŸ˜‚
