The ‘whack a mole’ strategy in Leicester...

No mate. I think the people of Leicester need to play it safe. Surely it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Look at the chaos there was in a London last night with illegal parties, etc. People just are not taking this seriously any more and they need to.
I agree with you 100%, but the government lost any control they had over the public with the Cummins debacle. A lot of young people though, f*** this, if they can do it, why can't we.

I would imagine Bournemouth may see a spike in a few weeks time! I still can't believe what I see whenever those photos appear.
Disgraceful isn't it, a day at the beach will probably cost quite a few people their lives

Funny tho we had days at the beach weeks and weeks ago and we said the same - no evidence of a spike
Then VE celebrations were the next spike - again no evidence
BLM protests - no evidence

Lots of ’the boy who cried wolf stuff’

Just wonder who/what to believe really

I hope these are all positive signs that outdoor activity with relative social distancing is a successful strategy.

Indoor, close contact and little ventilated environments seems to have been linked to bigger spreader activities.

The difficulty is these things often come hand in hand- e.g Cheltenham where you have a big outdoor event, but with significant indoor entertainment/ bars, hotel stays, travel to and from etc. More complicated than just the single event.

Going to the beach is out in the open, a lot of personal travel in vehicles. Protesting similarly open air and VE celebrations.

just listened to an interview with some past editor of the Sun and he more or less reafirmed my suspicion that its just the Govt flexing their muscles...

He said that they need to show they mean buisness but offered no real evidence that there is a definate spike any more than anywhere else...

Why aren't they closing the schools until Thursday?

Also no deaths in Leicester hospitals in 4 days?

It's all an experiment.

No evidence of a spike but evidence our tail is longer the our European counterparts

Is this due to beach trips and outdoor activity or more that we have reopened a lot of society while still having higher community transmission than most.

They should send Dominic Cummings there. That would reduce the risks for everyone.
Actually, they have their own Dominic Cummings type situation in Leicester.

The mayor was photographed several times breaking lockdown to visit the home of his partner. He even fixed the windows.

Leicester have recorded 944 cases of Covid in the last 2 weeks - three times higher than the next city in the UK.

This certainly feels like the government flexing its muscles. Potentially using Leicester as a test case to prove the localised lockdown approach "works". I would hazard a guess that there are few safe (or newly acquired) Conservative seats in Leicester.

I imagine there have been a number of Google searches by the good people of Leicester for the nearest town with pubs back open on the fourth!

Much though I'd love to blame the government here. Local lockdowns are a fact of life in some places. South Korea does them all the time and it's recorded massively fewer deaths.
