Thats the worst home performance I've ever seen

And i saw the three consecutive 4-1 defeats and the 5-1v Blackburn in 82.

Simply shocking.
I’m glad I gave those years a miss as I was 500 feet underneath! But this performance and defeat really is all about our defensive setup. I’m worried because we really needed a good display tonight. MC could have fielded a decent team tonight but chose to field youngsters. No one learns anything from a demoralizing defeat.

I was looking forward to watching it on tv. So many optimistic people on here saying Boro were getting it together.

What a disappointment. All the same mistakes from the last two seasons and no cutting edge.

Dreadful to watch.

After the effort to get youngsters to see a live game of football - could have been their first - and they had to sit through that.

The teenagers started to leave after the third, the Dads and Lads after the fourth and fifth.

Oh it was utter $hite. The first half wasn't that bad, but the earlier part of the second was a complete collapse with the kids clueless. Gilbert had done ok and Ayling too I felt, but once the latter went off we were done for and the kids were all at sea in a horror show. Plus Engel of course, two dog-turd displays in a row now for him. Last season when he did this, Carrick took him out of the side for an extended period as much for his own fragile benefit as the team's. Borges can't start fast enough IMHO.

We toughened up a little with Morris coming on, but by then it wa just damage limitation time.

Carrick made far too many changes, but I can only assume he did it as he didn't want to risk many more injuries with us already feeling the familiar bite. Whatever the case, a performance to forget.
Fortunately it was still bouncing in Block 61, so at least my daughter who I brought with me still had a good evening.

It was disappointing and it’s huge pressure on Saturday now. We have to win. All those changes and according to Carrick “it (the result) won’t impact on Saturday”.

Anyone watched/listened to Carrick's post match interview....? Apart from a 12 minute spell we played well.....? I will have an ounce of what he's smoking. All we did was move side to side extremely slowly. I will however say that IF Coburns miss in the first 5 mins had gone in it would have been a totally different game

Played like a team literally thrown together that afternoon. Stoke played like a team who knew each other and had drive and power. We lacked both ... with all the hype getting kids in possibly for the first time and play a substantially weakened team was a very bad decision

The famous ticket thrower.

Changed our season though. Pretty sure it was 2006 though? Or did we manage that scoreline twice?
Twice.

The Valentines Day Massacre, a team with Juninho, Ince, Gascoigne, Festa could have gone above Villa (into 8th I think) and we got undone by Carbonne & Joachim with Southgate, Ehiogu, Boateng and Judas Merson also appearing for Villa.

Season ticket gate was 4th February 2006, Southgate playing for us now & the team had Schwarzer, Mendieta, Downing, Hasselbaink, Viduka & Yakubu on the bench, made Luke Moore look like Mbappe.

Erikson had just announced he was stepping down the week before, I wonder if McClaren had already had his head turned.

I was thinking, I'm sure Villa have got 5 against us and have had a trawl through Premier League results & ...
Tuesday 28 January 2003 Boro 2 Villa 5.

They are a bit of a bogey team for us.

First half we had 3-4 opportunities to score vs. their 1 chance which was converted.

Even at the start of the second half, we missed a good chance to equalise. As soon as the second went in, we completely crumbled.

The first 55 minutes we were okay, given the personnel on the pitch. Not converting chances cost us. Played some good stuff at times, but then as the first half wore on it became a bit slower and more tepid. Stoke stopped playing so high up the pitch too and were happy to sit deeper and try counter.

Carrick is never going to come out and lambast players, it’s not his style. People have been complaining about the Orient managers criticism of Hemmings at the weekend. Carrick isn’t going to do that his players. For that reason, I always take his post match interviews with a pinch of salt / don’t bother listening to them.

He got the balance wrong on team selection for me. I’d have preferred another 1-2 first team players in midfield / front 4 but given current numbers and an important Championship game on Saturday I don’t overly blame him. We are threadbare in defence too.

Horrible getting battered at home but I’m over it. Hopefully we pick up 3 on Saturday and some of the injured players (particularly defenders) return after The International break.

Carrick should never have thrown away a chance to progress into he cup by making s many changes at once. I'm sick of seeing Boro managers do this. Who do they think we are? This competition gave me my best day as a Boro fan.

That said, it was far, far from the worst performance I've seen. There was actually some decent passing and we created numerous chances. I've sent many game when neither of those happened.

Not even close to the worst I've seen, and I've been going for at least 20 years less than you.

First half was fine, we were the better team and should have scored at least once, the second half was a total capitulation, very embarassing and Engel was on a mission to play himself out of the team, but it's not like we had even close to our strongest side out and heads went after the second went in.
