That is shocking - ref comments to wilder

If the manager can come out and criticise the ref why doesn't he have a right to reply after the game.
How many times have people discussed a refereeing decision and said why doesn't he come out and say why he gave/didn't give a decision.
I have no problem with a ref saying something like a didn’t give for example a penalty or a free kick because I deemed there was insufficient contact to award the foul. There is a big difference between that and saying a player should be tougher - that’s totally unacceptable imo

Well if someone told you to be tougher how would you take it ? A friendly bit of advice ?
If you are having a debate about whether something should be a free kick based on the amount strength you need to be prepared to have someone tell you that your player should have been stronger.

Why didn't you give mcnair a free kick.
I felt he went to ground to easily.
It was a very strong challenge on him
Well he needs to be stronger.

If you think something like that is an outrage, then I'm afraid I'm not with you.

I'm more concerned about us conceding three **** goals and how they're going to fix that.

I agree with you there - I’m far more concerned about how the team is performing than a referees comments

I agree he has to be stronger there and punch it clear. Rest of it all is just soundbites.

No team that loses 3 goals like that against a poor qpr have a chance of winning this division or close to it. We are still well short im afraid
Didn't we lose 5-0 there when we got our second promotion under Robbo?

To be honest, I thought wilder made a bit of an ar.se of himself in that interview.
I dont think the ref had a bad game, at all. We got beat because of Wilder's team selection in defence.
I wouldve thought a man of his experience would be able to lose gracefully.
He was frustrated, I agree that there should have been some yellows handed out to QPR, the ref was pretty poor, allowing foul after foul particularly on Jones.

Forest away wasn’t it
Just checked, it was 4-0 loss at Forest, then a 5-0 loss at QPR, then we won the next match 6-0. Forest were a good side they came first 3 points ahead of us. QPR however finished 4th bottom. They scored 10% of their season goals in that one game against us.

Ah yes, that was my first trip to Luton as well 😆

The referee was right there. He can't give a foul on Steffan because he should have been stronger. Nothing wrong with the comment at all.

The result doesn't say anything about where we will or won't end in this division. We've prepared in pre-season with the expectation that we have Tavernier, who was clearly a vital part of the way Wilder planned to have us playing this season. There's a massive hole in the middle of the side which needs to be fixed. Until we have his replacement in, and another two strikers, we have no idea how far away we are from the top end of the division.

Even if we were further into the season with a settled squad, this wouldn't prove anything. All sides have off days and today was 100% one of those days - and we still managed to make a game of it in the end.

Let’s get this straight

He wasn’t replying to the manager as a right of reply, nor was he commenting after the game to “set the record straight”.

It was an underhand off the record sly dig at one of our players made not to the manager in official capacity ( as some have now made it out to be) but uttered to a coach.

What ? You actually think it’s a referees job to tell players how to play ? News to me - i thought they were there to officiate, not participate in coaching players 🫤
He never coached him did he, Steffen should have been stronger in the challenge. The ref did his job.

Did the ref do his job, looked a handball pen to us, and the persistent fouling went unpunished by QPR, as did the persistent time wasting, well they did eventually get one yellow, but he'd let them get away with it all half with injury feigning.

I’m talking about this isolated incident, the referee is saying it wasn’t a foul and Steffen should have been stronger.
