Thank You Tony Pulis

(*aka Tony Pulis' total garbage)

Randolph/Meijas vs Betinelli/Stojanovic

Christie/Shotton vs Dijksteel/Spence
Ayala/Fry vs Fry/Wood
Gibson/Friend vs McNair/Hall
Fabio/Johnson vs Bola/Coulson

Howson/Leadbitter vs Howson/Morsy
Forshaw/Clayton vs Saville/Wing

Traore/Harrison vs Watmore/Folarin
Braithwaite/Downing vs Roberts/Browne
Bamford/Fletcher vs Tavernier/Johnson

Assombalonga/Gestede vs Assombalonga/Akpom/Fletcher

Ok Flint never worked, scored loads for Bristol but dried up big time when he came here. Saville yes way overpaid for him but at least he's been looking like a half decent player under Warnock so not a total write off. Whereas McNair is definitely worth the 5m we paid. Pulis's mistake was not in buying him it was having done so not playing him!

Would also agree whole heartedly with the point about not trying to win. His approach was frequently trying to avoid conceding and hoping you could nick something at the other end on the rare occasion you actually got the ball anywhere near the opposition goal - soul destroying football!
McNair and Saville have eventually proved successful signings but because of Warnock, not Pulis. Pulis thought they were wing backs FFS... 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Oh yes flint a non scoring scoring defender who we bought to score goals.

That’s pullis for you buys a defender to score goals.

The man is a 🦖

It really was a genius move on his part to sign a defender to score goals and not sign a top class set-piece specialist.

Then again, we had a top class set-piece specialist in McNair and he never played him.

Gary Monk will be comforted if he ever gets to read this thread. Its as if his Bausor sanctioned money wasting lunacy never happened. So instead lets do a hatchet job a fella who had to pick up pieces, eh? It'll even erase Jonathon Woodgate's legacy from the history books too.

I thought Pulis was given a tough gig and had to balance the books, so naturally had to sell anybody of any value.
That said, he spunked half of what he brought in on Flint, Sav and McNair and then as stated above, completely misused McNair and Sav. (Thankfully Sav is looking the part now and McNair is probably the best player in the division)
When he came in I thought ‘we’ve got ourselves a proper manager!’
I was wrong though and the football was just painful. It became a chore to watch, even on the internet.
He sucked all the joy out of the game.
Now we’ve got ourselves a real proper manager.
I can’t be the only one who previously (wrongly) painted Warnock and Pulis with the same brush but my god, they really are worlds apart.

If those teams played each other there's not a lot in it. Two good defences two combative midfields. Who would swing it Bamford Traore Braithwaite? No I would go for Warnocks team spirit. They would tie those three up and sneak a 1-0 win

Under pulis the club bought McNair- he didn't play him.
They bought Flint - he played him and he was awful - then we sold him for a £3m loss plus wages and fees.
They bought Saville - he played him and he was awful. He's been ok under Warnock, but £8m was and is horrendous.

That is a balanced view.

I'd never get tired of kicking pulis' b***ks. That is an honest view.

You can't say that.

The experts on here would have you believe they're near on identical with their approach.

Putting the style of football to one side Pulis had a big opportunity to get us up through the playoffs. With a big experienced squad he managed one shot on target in 2 legs v Aston Villa (who I think were worried about playing us) and then the next season he lost 6 matches in a row at a crucial stage of the season.

He had his chance to get us up and all would have been forgiven.

Some managers like Charlton, Rioch, Lawrence, Robson and Karanka took their opportunity to go down in history as managers who did the business for us.

Pulis for all his talk and big reputation failed. And he failed twice.

"pick up the pieces" 🤣🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

You mean by still having a squad that was more than capable of promotion and still having £20m to spend which could have been used so much more shrewdly? Aww, poor old Tony. Don't gimme it. 😒😒

Also, I think you'll find that only the other day there was a mass berating of Monk on here. And Woodgate. Must have conveniently missed those, eh? 😉

Would still rather have Pulis than Woodgate.
Think that goes without saying mate... 😉

Re Karanka, he built us up from no-hopers into promotion candidates and eventually to promotion itself, also we played some decent stuff in the Champo and didn't surrender to teams before the game had even begun. The season in the Prem was a disgrace though and unforgivable, so for that reason I'd never want him back here.

I agree, but his football was **** numbing.
