Testing & this government

Our 11yr old goes to a brand new school after months of vital learning lost, 2 weeks back and because another child in her year group tested positive they are all sent home for 2 weeks self isolation
No test allowed unless she has symptoms!!!!

And we, her parents can happily go about our business potentially spreading the virus
What complete and utter b0ll0x of a system

This government is chaos personified and a complete shambles to not be able to test her and yet we are allowed on our merry way.

There is no system whatsoever
The system is ‘cross your fingers and hope for the best’
Just shows you they haven’t got a system in place at all if we are allowed to work.
They are basically stating, not enough tests so rather than ruin the economy, get yourself to work and out of the house spending money we’ll hope for the best while you’re child suffers in her education

It’s the same for teachers but it’s ok as they’ve sent some schools 10 tests for staff and pupils...in Bolton many schools only have a few students left in school and this will continue happening all year.

Prediction that exams are teacher predictions again and that schools will repeatedly send students home throughout the academic year.

Dread to think how many people actually have the virus at the moment but have no way of knowing as they cant get a test.

Wonder how many people are having to isolate and loose money because they have a completely unrelated cough

The lack of testing helpfully keeps the confirmed cases count low though ;)

which also helps make the decision to return to school not look so bad hmm 🤔

Don’t worry - health minister this morning telling us we are ‘ramping up’ and then used a phrase which made me cough my cup of tea up
‘Dido Harding is doing everything possible’
Didn’t she sing a song called White Flag

Totally supported the original lockdown but it was only justifiable if it allowed us to prepare an efficient response system when we started to open things up again, The reality is that despite all Matt Handjob's promises and utterances the whole situation is a shambles.

I’m pretty certain we were told lockdown was to do exactly that - spread the load and give us time to prepare. Also that lockdown wouldn’t prevent Covid it would merely slow it down. It is a virus - when you come out of lockdown it doesn’t flee.

Can’t get away from the fact our prep hasn’t been good enough,

Spent 3 days trying to get a test for my daughter to no avail, ironically iam currently working on the ONS testing project and have hundreds of kits at home I couldn't even use one of them and hand it in

Said on another post, got a home test delivered that had to be put in a special post box. The only thing missing was the postage label. One of thousands of such tests sent out!
Delivered by an Amazon courier? Lot of money being made by private companies in orchestrating this mess.

I really think that the government needs to speak up and start explaining their actions in relation to the data. The initial government reaction relating to the relatively unknown virus was arguably admirable (given the data we were presented).

The media also needs to stop the misleading headlines which portray little but fear.

The accuracy of said testing should be openly discussed and also the data to support a government-predicted second wave. The NY Times recently published an article relating to the PCR tests and their accuracy. This has been discussed at length in depth recently.

I am getting more and more concerned in relation to children/education, jobs, depression, NHS late diagnoses, depression and ultimately the irreversible damage done to out economy. I think ultimately, that once the government (or people in general) commit to an action and it affects others, it can be very difficult to change that path and admit that, perhaps, you they were wrong.

I have no shame in admitting that I believe the pandemic is over. The government appear hell-bent on continuing this trend of fear.

I really hope for their sake, our sake, and the generations to comes-sake, that they are making the right decisions based on genuine data...

I agree that there needs to more openness over decision making and accuracy of data. I think most of the public would respect that.
Certainly early in the pandemic my German mate was full of praise for Merkel as she was open on the subject with her briefings covering:
This is what we know
This is what we don't know
Given the above this is what we're doing and why were doing it

The bit i don't agree on is "I have no shame in admitting that I believe the pandemic is over. The government appear hell-bent on continuing this trend of fear."
The pandemic is not over as there is no advantage at all to the government to drag this out. Their intention was a flag waving Brexity term of government, not an economy damaging crisis. That said, they're not making it easy for themselves despite the difficulty of the situation.

Thanks for that polite response. I absolutely respect your opinion in regards to the pandemic, everyone is entitled to their own opinion (there's nothing to say that I am right). Let's hope that you're right and that the governments actions are genuinely in the peoples best interest. Also, let's get big NW back on those sidelines!

I think we all hope the pandemic is over Zendieta, I don't think it is, to be honest, but hope you are right, I would take issue with the statement the governments actions early in the pandemic could be, arguably, admirable, with today's leaked email from Vallance. The government didn't follow his advice and he was reprimanded and put back in his box.

Do you have a link to this? Not seen it and would love to read an article, where was is reported? Thanks (y)
