Tesla drivers…

Not a “look at me I drive a Tesla” post…

just wondering what people who have one, think of them?

had mine a month now.. company car… and I’ve gotta say I love it. I do feel I’m missing something in its potential though? not used hands free driving yet but have used the fart horn a few times, just disappointed I can’t do it when driving though..

only used one charging station which I was impressed with as I’ve had the home charger fitted.. it’s shocking to see the increase in electricity used though, may be not the best timing during the high energy cost although most miles funded by the company… I did order it almost 8 months before delivery though and didn’t think prices would be so high..

collegue got a BMW electric car and is so disappointed with it he’s swapped with another collegue for a hybrid Audi 🤷🏼‍♂️

just wondering what others think of them and what they think is the best feature or any little known features?

I've never driven an electric car, or indeed any car with lots of driver assistance so I don't have an opinion. However, in one of those YouTube rabbit hole sessions I did see a garage owner pit a Tesla against Audi, BMW and Ford electric vehicles in an automatic parking challenge and the Tesla was very poor.
I'm sure that they are the future, but I'm interested to hear how people find electric vehicles to live with as much as the op, given the amount of software that they seem to need so they function.

Don't all modern cars require software to function ?

It's the reason I'll never be getting a car from Jaguar Land Rover again, as the software is crap and constantly needs updating, and when they do that it introduces more problems that then need remediating, and repeat.....

As for Tesla, I thought about it, but couldn't bear to give Elon Musk my money.

Yes hes a****

I have a long range model 3 and it is a really fun car to drive although I'm not really a car guy (its a company car also).
Wanted to go electric as its supposedly better for the environment and the bonus of it being really cheap as a company car.
The acceleration is ridiculous and everytime I show it to people they just start giggly like little kids.
Auto park is crap and a waste of time.
The autopilot is good for motorways to chill a bit but it still has its issues. Like when using it i didnt realise it would cut off if there was a traffic jam on the motorway and its a good job I was paying attention or it would have been costly.
The touchscreen is a bit of a fanny on when trying to change temperature or radio stations, buttons are so much easier than the touch screen.
Range anxiety stopped being a thing once I got my home charger sorted and being on Octopus intelligent I pay about £4.00 for a full charge these days which is good.

My company have a salary sacrifice scheme for ULEVs including Hybrids and EVs. I want to order one (my old VW Golf is getting long in the tooth), but I'm kind of torn about which to choose. I work in Cumbria and drive across there every week, but may well be getting a place to live more permanently over there, but would still be coming back to this side of the Pennines regularly. I'm thinking Hybrid is the way to go. I do like the look of the Golf GTE. Even these plug-in hybrids need charging at a station or home, but that shouldn't be a massive issue with there being charging stations where I work. The other issue is, most cars on the scheme have a lead time of a year or more!

We have a BMW.. love it, and i previously would never touch a BMW petrol/diesel car.

No range anxiety at all, can drive from the north east to south west with one 40 min stop in-between and I would have done that anyway for lunch so no different

The comfort and refinement along with the tech is simply fantastic.

We shopped around before choosing and this was the best car for what we needed.

Looked at the following

Lexus- good car range short and bit small for a main family car

Merc EQA/EQC - simply horrible was like driving a bus on mini wheels.

Q4 - lovely car… poor trim levels and long waiting time (12 months when we looked)

Tesla- meh… lots of tech but the car was poor and didn’t give you the fizz

Jag I pace - looks good, drives nice, but the quality is dogs… I opened the door in the show room and the handle came off in my hand… I couldn’t get the passenger rear door to close fully either

I'm supposed to be getting a Volvo XC90 Hybrid next month, which I ordered in March last year and the delivery kept getting pushed. It's queued for production now, so fingers crossed it'll arrive by the end of February.

Took me a few weeks to trust hands free, really comes into it's own on long motorway journeys. I find that a 200mile journey is much less effort.....I still don't entirely trust it late at night on dark country roads though.

Best little feature....use your frunk when picking up a takeaway and your interior won't smell of chinese for a week and any greasy spillage will just wipe away

Yeah, I've noticed the cost of charging hit me this last 2 months. I've got solar panels which helps but the weather has been terrible so I've not gleaned much....was great in the summer though, cost me about £2 to fully charge the car during day time hours.

I looked at one of them too, they're on our scheme, but the quoted price jumps like crazy when I look at it and configure it. I don't need an SUV anyway.

it'll improve, that's what's good about tesla, software upgrades

I've had it auto brake on motorway traffic jams. Check your distance settings, it would have applied the brake, just probably a lot later than you would feel comfortable with

Cheers, ill have a look into it!

I test drove on before deciding not to get one as a company car.

For me it was perfectly usable, but very expensive for what it was, but overall just didnt full-fill all my car requirements (however infrequent before the EV nutters chime in) of range, cost and useability.

The worst thing for me was that it just turned driving into a soulless activity of getting from A to B.

I would love one of these but sadly outside the budget.

interesting take. Personally I find driving a tesla good fun, I mean it's got great acceleration, not sure what it lacks other than engine noise to lose the 'soul' of driving. What exactly is it missing that loses the soul?

To some extent yes, but my van is from 2008 so it's Sinclair ZX81 compared to a Tesla I'm sure 😁
