Ted lasso

Having binged the 2 seasons in the last 2 days because it was being hyped up...

It's okay.

No more, no less.

I have absolutely no idea how it has won so many awards.

It's not particularly funny, the attempts at comedy are often incredibly cringey and the acting isn't particularly great either.
But it is pleasant and none of the characters are that unlikeable.

Even given it's British setting and cast, you can tell it's an American programme primarily made for an American audience.
Made most obvious by continously referring to draws as ties throughout the series.

I didn't hate it and it was nice lazy viewing, but there are far better things out there, both in the UK and America.
But I suppose I've not watched the competition from 2020 either, they might all be a bit pants too.

It's also probably better for people who have no interest in football.

Arwa Mahdawi is in agreement with you - "It is a nice show about a nice man being nice." That's all she has to say about it.

Glad it's not just me then.

I'd probably have enjoyed it more if I hadn't started watching it solely because it was getting critical acclaim and awards and expected it to be far better and deeper than it actually was.

Thanks I did start the first one but seemed a bit meh

I’ll give it a try.

I was surprised by those emmys mind

Comedy Series

“Black-ish” (ABC)

“Cobra Kai” (Netflix)

“Emily in Paris” (Netflix)

“Hacks” (HBO Max)

“The Flight Attendant” (HBO Max)

“The Kominsky Method” (Netflix)

“Pen15” (Hulu)

“Ted Lasso” (Apple TV Plus) (WINNER)

I've only seen Cobra Kai of the rest of that lot, and I'd say that was better, even if it is incredibly cheesy.

Apple TV Plus? How the flip do you get that then?

I started it and didn’t finish it, thought it was very average. Was shocked when it was renewed for a second season, was even more shocked to hear it’s won multiple awards.

You didn't get it then. First series was funniest series of the year. Second is a bit different in that it is focusing on characters but still funny. Cringe worthy at times but I think that's a whole part of the game. A must watch for me. And we have repeatedly watched previous episodes.

Loved the Beard episode last week. So many nods to Kubric, Scorsese and Fincher

I watched the first three or four episodes and realised I wasn't really enjoying it. So I stopped. I thought that was the end of the matter, but after reading this thread I now realise that rather than having a personal opinion, I'm a helpless smoothbrain who "didn't get it".

See we watch it as it’s an easy watch, don’t need to concentrate much but I didn’t really enjoy the beard episode. I kept expecting parts of it to be a dream or fantasy as they were so far fetched. I know most of the premise is far fetched, I just found most of the episode quite jarring.

Cobra Kai is a million times better than Ted Lasso.

I watched the first series up until the last episode, for some reason I’m just not bothered about finishing it. Probably will eventually.
