Team GB medal haul

I would be surprised if the track cyclists get anywhere near their haul of previous games, but you never know. Other nations have caught up and passed us in some of our strongest events and we performed badly at the last Worlds, but that was over a year ago and a lot can happen in that time. I expect Laura to get one gold, but can't see any other nailed-on winners - a few medals though.

Loving this olympics and how well we have done ( rowing aside) esp in the pool amazing to to think we have 28 medals 8 of them gold and this is before the velodrome is open as well.

brilliant go TEAM GB
Yes I was just saying earlier to the Mrs if we had our normal rowing haul it would have been a phenomenal games. I think we might pick up a few boxing golds.

We have done well. Apparently France are red hot favourites in the velodrome

28 medals so far

I heard the target was between 55 and 70 for the whole games

We got 67 medals at Rio Games.

To match Rio would be excellent.

The swimmers have exceeded expectations and made up for the rowing disappointment. Sadly as PQ says the track cycling will not bring the haul of golds and other medals the last three Olympics brought. The athletics may be goldless and we may only pick up 3/4 medals so hitting our target might be a challenge.

That said Eventing will bring us two gold medals. You can always rely on our horses and riders.

Brilliant to watch

It’s a real shame Dina Asher Smith couldn’t compete injury free. She’s a real talent and should already be a household name as a highly intelligent sprint world champion with a really bright and bubbly personality. A gold or two in the Olympics would have put her on the level of Jessica Ennis at her peak. Thankfully she’s young enough to compete in a couple more Olympics in her career.

I think we are going to struggle now which is a shame.

the rowing has been a disaster and as said above the cycling is not a forgone conclusion that it has been previously

the big worry for me is on the track, we have no standout winners aside from KJT

Muir is our better bet than KJT. KJT is not on the kind of form she was at the worlds. Her performance comparisons 2021 and winning the worlds

100m h 13.55/13.09

High Jump 1.84/1.96

Long Jump 6.10/6.85

Shot. 12.6/ 13.86

Jav 39.00 / 43.93

She hasn't recorded a 200m or 800m this year.
Apart from Muir and a couple of relays and an outside chance of a medal in the 800W (we have 3 in the final) I don’t see many coming our way.

If the race is slow, don't discount our 800m men. Dustin probably has the best kick in the race if it's around the 1.44 mark.

Sorry BL but Oliver Dustin didn’t qualify out of his heat yesterday.

Max Whitlock writing himself into the record books as the best ever. Superb performance but I'm not sure why Johnny Vegas was commentating.

Liam Heath in the canoe sprint might be one to look out for too. Defending Olympic champion.
Tom Daley too in the 10m individual diving and Sky Brown in the skateboarding.

Catching the Russian Olympic Committee is a possibility, but catching Australia for 4th on gold medals is looking very tough.

Australia is doing very well - only 25m people.

Got to hand it to the Aussies. They have brilliant sporting pedigree. Same to New Zealand too.

The Australians have such a good sporting mentally. In Rugby /Cricket and athletics etc.

They don't have this 'taking part is all that counts' mentality. I know it maybe brutal if young but it breeds winners from a young age.

I watched a documentary about it and they basically were disappointed finishing second at school sports days etc (no medal for taking part). I guess that's why they had the urge to cheat at cricket 😉
