There's a few of these going around so I thought I'd give it a go. Apologies if it has already been done.

Picking the best team from the 1997 & 2004 League Cup Final squads :

Schwarzer (2004 version)

Mills, Southgate, Pearson, Queudreu

Mendieta, Emerson, Boateng, Zenden

Juninho (1997)
Ravanelli

Subs
Schwarzer (1997)
Ehiogu
Mustoe
Job
Beck

Schwarzer (2004 version)

Mills, Southgate, Ugo, Queudrue

Emerson, Boateng, Zenden

Juninho (1997)
Ravanelli
Beck

Subs
Jones
Pearson
Mendieta
Mustoe
Hignett
Downing
Job

I think Juninho played best behind two strikers which is why I'd choose Beck ahead of Mendieta. Mendieta and Zenden were both better as CMs instead of wingers so it was a choice between the 2 and Zenden was better for us. If you are allowed 2 versions of the same player though then I'd have Juninho in twice, both playing behind Ravanelli. It's interesting because it shows the failings of that 97 team that none of the defenders would be picked but the forwards were stellar.

Danny Mills is a strange one, I know he wins this hands down as he is up against Neil Cox (if only his football was as good as his strut)

However I remember later in that season at Wolves and the Boro fans had really turned on him it seemed to me. Not that anybody we got in the next season or two was anymore effective than him but I always wondered why there was that antagonism toward the end of his spell as I was only really getting to away games in the Midlands due to location so never saw him at Riverside except on TV.

It's good to see Beck getting in. I always feel he is underrated (particularly by me). It's only after watching various highlights of those seasons I appreciated how much he had to offer. He was great with Merson.

I always thought Mills was excellent. Really tough and could play too. I don´t remember him becoming a boo boy target but I could be wrong about that.

I´d have all the 2004 defence - obviously - then Emerson, Juninho, Zenden and Mustoe in Midfield. Ravanelli and Beck up front. I´d love to replace Beck with Branca, Armstrong or even Ricard but I know that isn´t allowed. Not that I thought Beck was that bad, just in that team he´d be the weak link.

I liked Beck
