Tavernier

He was unlucky with the pen. However, he is so wasteful in the final third!

I understand he gives a lot of energy & works hard but not sure we need that when we have Saville & Morsy behind him. I'd like to see Roberts instead to give us some more composure.

Thoughts?

Tav was unlucky with the pen . Is he the designated penalty taker ? I would have put howson on it .
Tab does work hard but I agree , wasted chances.
Roberts did nothing to suggest he should start But he should have been given longer to try

I was under the impression that Paddy was our penalty taker.

Just really unlucky from Tav on the pen. I'm still not convinced that it was actually touched twice, and I must have seen it 20 odd times now.

I thought it’s a bit of a **** take to expect a Roberts to save you and only giving him ten minutes. That said he needs to get a shot off when he has a chance as do half the team.

Thought he mostly jogged around didn't try to find an opening and didnt seem hungry enough to have a dig at goal.
He wasnt alone mind

Poor game today, keep shape and sit back and hoof it, we never looked like scoring until the penalty,

We know we wont be pretty to watch but we do generally play with a bit more energy and enthusiasm.

Tavernier was wasteful with opportunities throughout the game. The penalty was just the icing on the cake. How he survived 80 minutes is a mystery to me.

It was one of his poorer games today. I like him on the wing more. However it was his burst into the box that won us the penalty, and he was the one fouled. He has also created more than any of our other players this season. If you are struggling for goals you do not drop your most creative player.
Either stick Tav on one wing and Roberts on the other, or play 3 at the back, play him as a wing back, and have 2 up top.

Being our most creative player this season isn't exactly hard. Maybe yes you could play him out wide however Roberts has to play on the right and Tav can't play on the left as he always wants to cut onto his left.

If being our most creative player isn't hard, why aren't any of the other players stepping up? Might not the fault behind our lack of goals lie with the players who aren't creating chances rather than those who are?

No - once you strike a penalty someone else must touch it before you touch it a second time otherwise it is a free kick - bit like if you hit the post you can’t put the rebound in. If the ref had any doubts Tav quickly dispelled them with a total lack of celebration after the ball hit the back of the net - instead he showed immediate concern that he had messed it up when he looked at the ref. If he had immediately ran off celebrating I think he would have given the ref something to think about.
