Tav

What are peoples thoughts on him this season?

He's clearly a good player, but I thought he was going to really kick on this season and show that he's probably a cut above the championship, but i'll be honest it hasn't happened at all. I'd go as far as saying he's been disappointing on the whole.

His free kicks and corners are atrocious, and his shooting has been lately too. He's also shown in a few games lately to be very ball greedy in the final third - ballooning shots over the bar instead of playing people in who were free.

He needs to play centrally as that's where i've seen him play his best football, but I dont think NW will ever go with a midfield 3 of Crooks / Tav / Payero.

It also seems to me his body language during games suggests he doesn't like playing wing back either.

I fear that his is reaching his peak, he has talent, he just inst improving and his "shoot on sight" policy is frustrating when 90% of the time its high wide and handsome.

He was annoying me last night to be honest, he ran into blind alleys and tried to shoot when there were better options.

It must be frustrating for him being out on the wing or at wing back I think and he seems to be trying too hard or overplaying or something? I think him and Payero more central supporting Sporar with maybe Crooks and maybe JLS(?) deeper might see him deliver a bit more.

His intensity is brilliant and he's pretty much a must pick for that alone.

I just think he needs to calm down and get his head up more when in possession and that was the case last season too.

In some ways similar to the problem Traore had, where he actually needed to slow down a bit in order to improve the final ball.

I wouldn't want Tav to lose that intensity, but equally not everything needs to be done at 100 mph all the time.

I just think he is having a little dip in form. Being moved around the pitch doesn't help. There's more to come from him this season and sometimes a dip in form is no bad thing in the long run. Watching him after missing that good chance from inside the D and not just missing it but walloping it ten yards wide from twenty yards out... not good but he knows it and is demanding more of himself. And I think that is the problem he is trying a little too hard. He needs to relax and stroke those shots, precision not power. He'll come good again and I think he can probably play effectively all over the pitch and I don't think RWB is beyond him. Just relax lad, let it happen.

Terrible shooting and deliveries lately, but I'd still back him to score 3-4 this season if he stays fit.

Which you might argue isn't enough for a player with so much hype around him.

Hopefully he still comes good this season.

Honestly think I'm watching a different player to the OP. thought he was superb in the first half last night, he was our main attacking outlet. yeah, his finishing could definitely do with some improvement but he is getting into some great positions. he probably would be better in the middle but he is very dangerous cutting in from the right on his left foot. I thought his corners were very good last night as well, always threatened. One of the first players on the team sheet for me - he should be getting 10+ goals a season in this division and with a bit more composure he won't be far off.

It's a little chicken or egg isn't it - at his best you probably build the side around him but difficult to justify at the moment which is probably why he's being asked to fill in elsewhere.

He's probably not reaching the levels his early career suggested but he might have levelled out? May be a top Champo player rather than a PL one?

That said, he's still only 22 (I thought he was older) so still time.

He is having a dip in form and in any skill based endeavor that happens. Thos guitar players amongst us, think back to when you were learning and you would plateau or even go backwards. This happens as your brain rewires nuerons and breaks old connections. Once the brain has completed that, you improve again very quickly until the next "reset"

This is why young players are so inconsistent. Its a known and well understood phenomenon.

He is just going through a bit of a dip in confidence in terms of his finishing. He works hard, tracks his man, and is positive on the ball. There are far bigger limitations in the team than Tav. He was unlucky not to get a penalty last night from that run in the first half. I think playing as a right wing back limits him a bit and realistically he'd offer more in the middle than Payero at the moment (although he is starting to show a bit of what he can do).

I don't know what it currently is with Tavernier, but I expected him to be playing much more effectively this season than he is.
He is not scoring or creating goals and his decision making and delivery has been poor.
Of course he has ability and potential, but all is not well this season so far.
I love his energy bursts and the pressure he can apply, but there is so much more that could come from that than currently does.

He's not really worth his place at the moment. His shooting and general play is well below par. Warnock obviously must realise this and it's his job to handle it. Perhaps a toe up the backside by NW would be better than telling Tav how good he is ?

He seems determined to shoot whenever he picks the ball up in the opposite half. He needs to look up and realise there’s a better ball on. Also his crossing and set pieces are poor, Payero’s looked a level above his last night. Take him off corners.

Got his head up his own ar$e at the moment, turning into a show pony, all the antics that some of the great players have ,the strut, the sign of the cross, hopping over the touch line, pointing to the heavens, little shimmy before he takes a dead ball ,I think he’s concentrating too much on getting all of this into his game and forgetting the basics. His decision making is poor and maybe a spell on the sidelines might give him the kick up the ar$e he needs to get back on track.
