Tattoos

Well thanks for selectively quoting my post.
I didn't say I don't know anyone with a tattoo. I also clearly indicated I have no problem with them.
But no, none of my family, friends or close work colleagues do.
I wasnt having a dig, but I would be surprised if none of your family, friends or work colleagues didnt have a tattoo that you knew nothing about. Lots of people dont have them visible and dont want or need to talk about them.

This is true. I worked with a consultant who felt it wasn’t a good image for him to be having tattoos. He always kept them covered up at work and you’d never know. I only found out when we started chatting about mine

Sleeves and big daft stuff..... not for me but they don't do me or anyone else any harm so why not? Live and let live.
Also don't have a problem with people saying they think they look silly...... it's an opinion, that's all.
I love the discrete tats commemerating something or somebody, a lifetime reminder prescious to the individual. Very special.

i have a fair few but they are generally covered, I have a chest piece covering the right half of my chest, I have 2 half sleeves that are upper arm only, my right leg is sleeved below the knee and I have a verse across the left side of my ribs.

you can see the bottom of the arm ones if I wear short sleeves or the top part of the chest tat if I have a couple of buttons undone but for work I don’t so people just wouldn’t see them.

Being of an age from when mostly only wronguns had them if I see a bloke covered in tats I'm immediately judgemental, instinct.
I know thats irrational and ridiculous.
But bizarrley if I see a woman with a sleeve I don't have a similar reaction.... I get the immediate impression that they are strong and independent. Odd.

many think the same as you, I’m 6’1 and I spend a quite abit of time weight training so I’m a fairly hefty 16stone if I’ve got short sleeves and shorts on I do see many people looking quite warily at me, and when I speak they are expecting a rough accent and get quite surprised when I do as I’m generally very polite and quite articulate.

Can’t be ärsed reading the whole thread, but I think it’s probably more trendy these days not to have one. Don’t think many people had a “sleeve” before Beckham.

I like this. I think we all make certain judgements based on looks. By your description I'd probably think "christ this guy looks a bit handy" and be nervous to speak to you. I'd probably end up pleasantly surprised

Have we got to the point on this thread where we accept its individual choice now?

I have no tattoos, scared of needles, my wife has a small shoulder tattoo and all my kids, except the 10 year old have some. Who cares, not me, that's for sure.

Priv, do people really look at you warily? That's a shame.

I am more likely to prejudge someone wearing a monocle than someone with tattoos.

My wife has her shoulder and back tattooed and I think it suits her but never been truly tempted myself.
I can never get the episode of M*A*S*H out of my head when Radar is thinking of getting a tattoo:

"They're dumb. Back in World War I, I had a friend your age got himself tattooed.
Put his girlfriend's face, smack dab in the middle of his chest."

"Gee, that's swell."

"Swell. Couple of years later, he sprouted hair on his chest, turned her into the bearded lady!"

I've always been convinced this would happen to me if I got one! 🤣
