Kick Off with Danny Kelly - Clubs in Crisis Special

Hosted by Danny Kelly. Why in the shadow of two of the richest clubs in football, where Manchester United and Manchester City can spend tens of millions of pounds on a single player, just a few miles away, clubs are relying on supporters to raise money for travel and accommodation.

Aparently its a wider examination of managing money in football - managing clubs and whether the existing model is sustainable in todays game.

Some interesting points came up in the radio programme:

More young players will be playing this year in L1 and L2 - under 21s don't count in the salary cap.

L1 clubs only voted by 1 vote for a salary cap.

There is on going talks to get Government financial support and Premier League financial support for L1 and L2

Had Rochdale chairman on and Northampton chairman. Both said Furlough was keeping their clubs afloat. Downward pressure on wages this season.

A lot of sponsors money has been lost.

Many financial problems occur with foreign ownership of clubs when the owners lose interest or don't realise how much they have to subsidise their new club.

PFA fairly isolated on their current stance.

Cheers for the summary. Personally I don't think it will be a great loss if we go back to the old model.
Obviously the level of football is better now but is the level of enjoyment really s worth all the extra money than fans have to pay?
