After that disappointing Premiership Season, relegation, desperation, heartache, agony and pain.....almost on Sunderland`s league list....
The Bees is a heartening story - we beat them many times - they lost out at the final hurdle, but they got back up.
We need to regain belief and faith - in hope and determination, to get our heads up proud and face the targets at our front.
This story could almost be us [again].
We have to bury previous Managerial and player mistakes - look forward and believe that we are more than good enough to go up automatic this coming season.

Their scouting set-up seems absolutely lightyears ahead of ours. It's incredible the players they pluck out of nowhere and then sell for a mammoth profit. I'm genuinely glad they managed to keep enough good players together this time to finally get them up there because they did it right.

Their scouting is second to none. When you look at the millions we wasted on players who simply did not deliver the goods, but unashamedly took the high wages, it makes me feel embarrassed. I hope SG looks closely at the mistakes that have clearly been made in this area and tries to replicate Brentfords approach.

Ive read that the "London lights" are more appealing than Northern Lights, especially to younger players?
Its all relative, but Boro can seem like a foreign country to some.
I wonder how much impact that has on players choices to move up norf?
Or is that just an excuse......mmmm?

I think if a player had a choice between Brentford and Boro, they'd choose us any day of the week because we are a bigger club. Obviously Brentford are PL so they would have the upper hand right now, but generally I would say we are more attractive. We are just never in for the players Brentford identify though.

Youre embarrased? Were you embarrased when we battered them in the play offs and got promoted the next season. We have had more success than them for as long as I can remember.

Were in a bit of a sticky patch but ask a brentford fan before this season and I'm sure they were sick of them failing at the final hurdle and always selling their best players.

Well be back 👍🏻

Im not so sure.
We seem to have lost prospective targets to teams down south.
It may be coincidence.
I hope we are set up and ready for the start of the season.
It would be really disappointing to find Akpom still here at the start!
Coulson and Spence could move on for me too.

Sat with a skunk fan at a family do tonight discussing their hopes for next season .
Andy Carroll offered a new contract , was his reply .
I mentioned our success over the last 20 years , cup finals , enjoyment .
He said , ' you got beat in them though '
So I reminded him , getting there was a great experience , although Wembley was not good for us, but Cardiff was . We won a trophy, and went to a European final , which is more than they have done , or can dream of.
We were spoilt in a short time , but it was fantastic, and it put us on the map.
Silence was golden.

Whilst we have spent plenty since relegation it has been grossly mismanaged not a chance we can emulate Brentfords intelligent setup. As Brentford have shown its not about spending bigger but spending smarter. Gibson is too pig headed to change his ways off the field the club is light years behind.

If you appoint an exciting young manager with the backing of a good chairman, and the support of a good crowd then how can it go wrong. Then you can attract talent.
It's happened before.
I would love for Gibson to throw down the gauntlet to Frank Lampard and he pick it up. We should have gone for Gerrard, but heyho.

We`ve had exciting young managers - Karanka, Southgate, Monk, Woodgate - but the magic ingredient and rub of the green has eluded us.
We`ve spent big to attract top class players - but it was the money, not the club, which persuaded them to wear the red shirt.
Its hard to imagine the class of players of recent years signing without the offer of a substantial wedge:
Viduka
Hasselbank
Geremy
Juno
Ravanelli
Merson
Parlour
Townshend
Emerson
Southgate
Ugo
Maccaroni
Yakubu
Zenden
.......

I would agree with the first two managers and for different reasons they could not sustain improvement. The list of players, how far back do you want to go, not too many in recent times. Monk appeared to me as a man with the money and no plan hoping it will work out, Woodgate ran out of time, started well too. The highs have been absent for too long. I want to see energy and our team going for it by players playing for the shirt and manager. If it's to be a bunch of talented kids with some journeyman pro's great. But want to see spirit and the crowd lifted.
I wonder if these days at the interview the first question is how much, rather that why do you want to play for my team. And I totally understand why you have to pay for proven talent but I would just say take a look at Brentford. Is it because they are London based and that's where the big teams are and in the scope of the scouts from those clubs which is an attractor for those players.
On a totally different point, why can't we have a selection of real ales and fodder at the ground next season, instead of the very basic options we are given.
Time to step up Gibbo we need change.

Personally I think if we're sitting next to each other in the league 9 out of 10 choose Brentford over Boro.

I think our scouting team is pretty decent. Many of the names we've been linked with in the past have gone on to much bigger things. Certainly from mowbray to Karanka they were able to identify a number of decent talents. We either can't get the deal done or the manager is a hopeless idiot like monk and signs the wrong players.

Given we are in an unattractive location but with a decent catchment area I think running an academy is the right thing to do.

Yes, agree just difficult getting the players here. As we saw in Robbo, the name I'm sure was a key factor. That's why I suggested Lamps or Gerrard. I can see why Derby have gone for who they have.

I'd like us to focus on two things.

Play the kids. Our best two players both came through the academy. The only manager in who has given our academy lads a decent crack is McLaren. In his last season he managed to get 14th place in the prem, 1 cup final, one quarter final and one semi final by using the youth team to rotate.

Play the strongest team in the cups. This is where all of the teams memorable moments are forged. This is what gives the club a name and a reputation.

Instead we treat every season as if we absolutely positively must get up this season or the universe will implode. 2 players for every position.

Connor malley played one match and was top class. The big tall lad comes on and offers more in 20 minutes than Fanny's like assombalonga and Fletcher did all season. Wood plays one game good and one game bad. They hardly got a kick. Next season we will probably ship them all off on loan.

This is what we used to do and we were successful.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has the experience and the charisma .
He would be my choice in front of Lampard , he also is a legend with our fans .
