Swansea, Forest and Birmingham interested in George Friend

According to the football insider. Interesting to see he if takes up our offer or wants to try something else at this stage of his career.

I would think we have offered him a big wage cut, but can he at his age get more elsewhere?

I hope he stays but he probably only has one more shot at a fairly decent-paying move, so if he does go I’ll not be surprised. Of all our players, he’s the one I’d least begrudge moving for financial reasons.

Dont think he will be regular if he stays. Be all about how much his family is settled here.i think anyone would find it hard to give your lot after a pay cut. Pride etc. I see a fresh challenge

He will no doubt be thinking about how often he expects to play as well as wages and whether it’s worth uprooting his family. If Karanka offers him the same wage we do and assurances over game time, he might decide it’s worth going but I expect him to stay if our wage offer is similar to other offers he’s had.

Decent bloke George
He will go with our best wishes - not many like him who give their all for one club for so long.
Clever lad - he`ll do well at what ever he does.

I hope he stays but I can understand why he would leave if he can earn more elsewhere. He might not be the first name on the team sheet but he will always give 100% at LB or CB. We moan about players not caring or moaning, don’t think you can ever accuse Friend of that and thought he played ok the last few games.

His best days are behind him, we all know that but if he goes he goes with the best wishes of all Boro supporters for his performances in the Karanka days and for his absolute professionalism over his tenure with us.
The man's a gent and there aren't many left in football.

Whatever you decide George, all the very best wishes.

His final performance, if indeed it was, away at Sheffield Wednesday, was as fine a performance as any other over the years, he dragged us up and over the line playing superbly, he was commanding and put up a real captains display.

I would be happy to keep him around the squad and actually hope he stays now. If he chooses to move on for whatever reason, he would go with my blessing. If he goes to a rival, If I am at the ground, he will rightly get applause from all the fans and our thanks for all the time and effort he has put in not only for the team, but for the whole of Teesside and surrounding area. A true gentleman and a shining light in humanity.

I wish him well wherever he goes👍

A brilliant servent who's never been one ounce of a problem. He's basically embraced local life and very much become part of the club. He will get a fantastic reception no matter what he does next.

I think its between maybe a 1yr deal at Boro and a paycut or more money and game time at another. He's settled in the area but at his age I guess one final payday shouldn't be scoffed at.

I guess a link up with AK at Brum wouldn't be out of the question.

I'm glad Warnock said he had been given time to decide. He deserves that. I do though agree that I'm not convinced we should up our offer or contract length to keep him. He's been injury prone for 2yrs.

I wouldnt mind a year (maybe option of another) as a back up CB.

The way that he performed during the restart was amazing -- proved that he still has what it takes in NW's system [maybe]?
