Suspected remains of Keith Bennett found on Moors

It's possible, but as @FatCat's post shows, the police have now abandoned the search because no sign of any human remains was found.

As a further statement from the police puts it:

In any event whatever it was, and based on the police findings after an exhaustive search was concluded, it was apparently not human remains.
Yes, saw that, I find it a little odd that the police reported a jawbone had been found but now report that no human remains were discovered?

They never as he was never imprisoned as he was sent to broadmoor at her majesty’s pleasure so would never have faced the noose. Sadly.

He wasn't sent to broadmoor until 1985. He was sent to Durham prison immediately after sentencing. He would undoubtedly have been hanged, if capital punishment had not recently been abolished.

The police didn't report that a jawbone had been found. They reported that, "what experts working with the informant have interpreted as a human jaw bone," was found.

There's a difference between an actual human jawbone and what somebody thinks is a human jawbone based only on looking at photographs.

The bloke who tipped off police seems to be a bit of an attention seeker. Same fella who claimed to have solved the Jack the Ripper case.

Ah thanks, I didn't see the reports, only what I'd read on here.

Whatever it was that was found has no doubt been DNA tested to establish what it is.

According to what the police have said, after searching for a week they didn't find anything to test.

They suggested that what was thought to have been a human jawbone by someone looking at photographs of it, could possibly have been plant-based.

Understood, just a shame that it raises false hope for the victims family.
