Supporters Forum

Does seem strange that a supporters meeting with the manager of MFC is not allowed to be shared with the fans, what could Neil have said that he doesn't want everybody to know apart from the fans at the forum, he supports Newcastle, he thinks Middlesbrough should put a statute of Aspilla outside the stadium to commerate his debut or he thinks parmos are the most overated food substance ever known to man???

As Rob also mentions there was 1 or 2 things Neil spoke to us about that he preferred not to be made public as such, so we will of course respect wishes and leave those bits out.

We don't want to know your secret anyway. Ner ner ner ner ner.

Sounds like a strange way to run a meeting, the first speaker is so good he is allowed to overrun by an hour, so the rest of the agenda is cancelled!
Well done Mr Chairman.

OK. I stayed silent on this but I found my missing lead to my tape recorder today and so have sent some bits of recording to Mark and he will be talking to the club so something should be published about the fans meeting with Warnock in some format or other.
I wasn't prepared to sit and transcribe a near 2 hour long session - so Mark has some back up now for his notes from what I have taped.
I record stuff for my own use, If I need to refer to something later. But I did it last minute and on a recorder that was at hand. So, I didn't want to mention it because I didn't know if I still had a lead to download it.
Anyway, Mark has something to help him with his notes now or when Neil Warnock chatted to some of the fans at the forum on Monday.
Sorry for being cloak and dagger - but I just did not fancy typing out such a lengthy recording.

Primus you cannot live stream zoom meetings unless the person in control switches on the function at their end.
I just happened to have a recorder next to my computer that I use for 5 minute Q and As with Neil Warnock every week.
I thought I will switch that on. But then when it lasted over 90 mins. I thought keep quiet dont tell Primus he will want you to transcribe it all..lol. It would have taken forever. As I hadnt a clue where the lead was to attach to a computer etc.
I found it last night and sent the file to Mark to help him out with his notes.
Am sure he was thinking the same as me. Oh no this is long.
Anyway, we should have something for everyone, finally.

Sorry Rob I didn't mean you personally, I meant if the MSF did.

I just cannot see what all the cloak and dagger nonsense is all about - anything discussed at the MSF should be made available to all fans?

I don't think anyone expected the meeting to take the turn it did. Warnock was booked for 30 mins and then we were going to discuss other matters as you saw on the agenda with the commercial depart of the club.
But yeah it is a good point and something to bring up and discuss with the club. We did live streams of other meetings during lockdown but these were not with MFC present. And Red Army TV kindly did the technology for this.
I think you can understand some things can be discussed with the football club that need to be kept between four walls. But it would be good to be able to broadcast at least some of meetings in future for transparency etc.
But at the same time we wouldn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable or inhibited about being part of a meeting that was being streamed. Am talking about fans here.

All fair enough but why would anything discussed in a fan forum not be disclosed to the very fans who it’s meant to represent?

If you put yourself forward as a fan rep then part of that is accepting you’re going to have to speak in meetings. If you don’t want to do that then don’t put yourself forward.

Whilst it’s nice to have Warnock, surely the most pressing issue should be a united stance to Gibson’s position on The Big Picture?

Mark transcribed it and it took hours. The Boro.Support website guy is putting it online there. He is just waiting for him to do this.

Question from Ellen – Boro North America – We have had some weird and wacky questions from our group. What is your favourite flavour of crisps and do you prefer Greggs or Nando’s? ”

totally stole the thunder there Rob, could have had the horse / duck question in there.

I was more a guest at the meeting so am not calling the shots on this. But I will find out today what is what.

Surely nobody at the meeting should be calling the shots! A fans forum is for and about fans issues, so surely all reps are their to discuss issues raised by fans.

Who decides the invites and who represents the fans? I appreciate the fact it happens is a good thing and I am not criticising the attendees, just wondering about whether all groups are represented or if it is representative of the fans as a whole?

Do fans have an opportunity to shape the agenda?

Are representatives deciding personally what they choose to ask to be placed on the agenda and is every proposal for an agenda item discussed?

How are reps held to account?

Should there be a mechanism to elect fans reps annually?

I think the fact this forum exists at all is excellent and seems really positive I do wonder how widely ordinary fans can shape discussions and have their personal issues addressed or at least answered by the forum as a whole rather than one rep on it. Some questions I have seen on here may seem petty, but I dare say to the individual may not always be. I also accept that some seem ridiculous mind.

Filming it in 2020 would help fans see what goes on, ensure greater understanding and some accountability of those in attendance. Is there an opportunity for ordinary fans to attend or put themselves forward as reps (When normality returns) or is it a closed shop. If not, should there be?

The above questions are to aid my understanding, hopefully the answers have already been considered by the forums reps. It is great that people are giving of their time for the benefit of the many and I for one see what is happening as a positive, but I am sure like everything it can grow and become an even better, more open vehicle than it stands today.
