Support for the self employed.

I feel incredibly let down at the moment, I had a nice little business going selling 2nd hand photography equipment and since Monday I have sold 6 things.I would normally sell on average 10 things a day.
I will now have zero income as I still have fixed costs to pay that are more than the current sales im getting.

I dont want to come across as ungrateful at least I have my health, that's more than some.

Not sure where I stand as an agency worker on a Zero hour contract. I still pay NI and TAX when I do work.

I will look into that but as a sole trader you dont declare a salary when completing your self assessment tax return you only declare your profit or as for next year it will almost certainly be a loss.

I'm in the same boat Redpete. My immediate thoughts are 1) happy for those employees who get the 80% 2) I wish universal basic income had been implemented years ago, and things could be a lot simpler now and 3) the limit of £2500 per month is too high - people should not need that much to "survive" on, it should be shared out more

There’s bound to be more announcements in relation to the self employed which I’m sure will improve their lot. Rishi Sunak is doing a fantastic job in very difficult circumstances and has promised “to do whatever it takes” and that will include the self employed, who are a little more difficult to control than those on PAYE.

Not really in most cases they have our annual tax returns so they know our annual profits.

It seems more a case of the tail wagging the dog. I am hoping that further measures will be announced but I think that's more due to the added pressure that has been put on the government rather than they were going to do it anyway.

I must also add the applying for Universal Credit is a complete and utter nightmare.
I have spent the best part of 3 hours trying to complete the process but the system keeps crashing then you have to try all over again.

On the BBC deputy treasury minister said there will be more announcements regarding the self-employed in 'the next few days' at the moment it's poor. I'm not after big handouts, 80% of what I did last year would be more than fine or a flat rate cover the basics for all self-employed..

"..Treasury minister Stephen Barclay said it would be "operationally" hard to protect self-employed incomes." I'm not after protecting my income, I just want to cover bills & be able to buy food..

Central Gov covering Council Tax.. due from April 1st, would be a start.. at least for the first 3 months..

I think they just haven't worked out how to do more than the benefits side of things yet. Expect further measures next week.

Am I right in thinking if the payments to the self-employed and this is based on profit, those that did a lot of cash jobs and didn’t declare it will be getting a lot less than they expected.

Also people that pay themselves a tiny wage then take the rest as dividends are pretty screwed as well. I suspect there is going to be a lot more profitable companies at the end of this tax year i suspect.

If you didn't declare it to the HMRC you are going to find it impossible to claim that you have had those profits as they will go on historic returns
