I'm not staying away from it.
I just think their away fans are ***** and it spoils the occasion.

I'll be there, and hopefully we win, but it's not a match I'm particularly excited for.

I'm embarrassed by some of the things that certain Boro fans chant too, especially at away days, although most of it is generic abuse and insults about the place we're playing, it doesn't mean I have to accept highly offensive chants aimed at us.

This is the problem right there.

Ok so if I sing songs about race snd use the n word that ok as it’s just a song.

No there’s no difference If we can stamp out one then we as in Middlesbrough football club can stamp it out any one singing should be kicked out anyone else kick them out if they all sing kick them all out.

Accepting this as banter or it’s ok they all do it is wrong.

Not only was it 35 years ago the allegations were unfounded. They were based on a false assumption by a doctor from newcastle (of all places) that was very quickly rubbished.
 
Went to uni in sunderland for two years in early 2000's and regrettably later worked there for 3 years up until last September. A horrible collection of people. As many, many people have commented on this thread, all clubs have deplorable elements of their fanbase and sing som terrible things, however, with most clubs these fans and the wider community are a minority. With Sunderland, it's en masse! Almost every single one of em. Moronic, racist half wits.

Wouldn't give them the steam off my pi$$

Sunderland fans seem to enjoy belittling us 😄. I think it makes them feel important. They like to go on about attendances etc because that's all they've got. They love to emphasise how much we are 'desperate for a derby'. I couldn't give a flying f**k what they think of us to be honest, i just don't like them.

If you look at what we have achieved in recent times (ie not going back to the 1970's)...

League Cup runners up 1997
FA Cup runners up 1997
League Cup Runners up 1998
League Cup winners 2004
2 UEFA cup runs - runners up 2006

I've seen my team beat AS Roma, Lazio, FC Basel, Steaua Bucharest, Stuttgart etc

Not bad for a little 'tin pot' club in Yorkshire 😆 .

Almost everyone from Sunderland is a racist half wit? What a load of rubbish

They are a decent club and exactly like us have a minority of scum who happen to follow them which isn’t representative of the real supporters

When I lived and subsequently worked there that is EXACTLY what I experienced, so you can't dismiss what I said just because you don't agree with it. Maybe I was being glib saying almost everyone but you get my gist
 
They are a bit frustrated after playing semi pro footy for too long which is fair enough I guess. Saying that theyll prob get a result at ours, far more motivated. They have had a better team for us about 4 years out of the last 30 years or something couldnt be bothered going back any further, that creates a huge chip on their shoulder, always has done. They will turn up and carry out their peaceful protests as usual 😂😂😂
