Sunderland suspend season ticket sales at 12k

That's a great way to upset core supporters - suspend sales without notice.

There will be current season ticket holders who at present would not turn up so they will never get 12k at a game under current conditions. Also there could be fans who have bought a season ticket for the last 20 years, but are waiting until more is known and they have been left out and probably feel they are not wanted now.

I would rather attendance be confirmed in advance of each game during lock down, especially as people will have to be spread out so you will unlikely have your normally seat. I expect only around 75% of ticket holders will confirm so 16k season ticket holders is 12k crowd. We might have to have a rota where your season ticket can only attend 2 out of 3 home games. Free live broadcast to every season ticket holder.

We should be aiming to sell between 18k and 19k season tickets - nearly all fans will be more optimistic than last season and the prices have been held (I think).

You have to be joking if you think the majority of fans will renew at full price for a season that they have no idea how many games of which they are going to be permitted to attend.
There is already credit to be used from matches not seen "last" season.

Why sell something you know you are not going to be able to provide?
If there is to be variable capped crowds, then they are better off allocating the permitted number of fans for each game. It is going to vary and be gradually increased in time.
Those who have already renewed and paid should get allocated first (this excludes me)
Those who are then longest running season card holders should be next allocated by Card prefix, obviously Gold first. They would be allowed to buy a ticket at SC rate.
Then if any are remaining they would go on open sale at walk up rate.
This is going to be so difficult as so many people go to the match in pairs and dependent small groups.

They still had time open on the season card renewal deadline so first they'll have to set a new deadline to see how many existing ST holders are renewing so they can finalise numbers.

As a ST holder I always intended on renewing but I was leaving it until after the last pay day just before the deadline as I always do. The pandemic then hits and the renewal deadline was suspended. I imagine there are many other ST holders in the same boat.

Thats true Rooster, same as me, but there is no point in compounding the issue of not being able to get all SCX holders in and yet getting everyone committed to full season they can'r deliver.
Time to think more creatively and an opportunity to reset relative pricing here.

What about giving £20 credits to adults for games that sell out - that way supporters only pay for games the attend or that are available for them to attend - there is no risk for the supporter paying for games they can't get into.

I renewed the first week of renewals. Due to marital situation I am currently residing at parents house, both of whom are 79 and vulnerable. No idea what I will do. I expect I’ll be offered the opportunity to go and if I turn it down then that match is burned and I lose the money. I haven’t claimed this seasons money back for the behind closed doors games, nor the money for Swansea game for the ticket I bought for my son. I don’t intend to claim it back, and probably won’t going forward either if what I said pans out, but I am fortunate enough to be able to do that, many in a similar position won’t be able to do that. I won’t hold the club responsible, it’s a situation not of their making and they are in a difficult position. I guess at some point we have to get on with life managing the risks.

Roll on a vaccine.

Another option would to be send season ticket holders a unique code to access matchday streaming.
Have something built in to each stream showing the unique code on the screen to put off any naughty boys streaming the game in a pub or on YouTube etc. Those found illegally streaming would have access to live streaming removed.

This demographic will be older and therefore more at risk - I'd actually argue it should be younger and newer card holders who get first dibs
