Sunak's wealth....

And your first hedge fund PM too?
Also worked in the pharmacy his mum owned and waited on tables in a local curry house.

Got a place at Winchester but failed to get a scholarship and his parents struggled to pay the fees. He wore a secondhand school uniform.

Maybe his subsequent wealth won't make him forget his early experiences.

Sunak is a great choice for the Conservative party. He's privately educated, has links to hedge funds plus Indian heritage. Which will boost party and individual fund raising, especially from Indian firms. Won't do much for the public, but when did that ever matter.

I think his time as the previous chancellor doesn’t seem to reflect that.

Wonder he caves into Modi’s demands for unlimited work visas in order to make the trade deal with India?

The "second hand uniform" bit is a bit of trivia tittle tattle and I suspect not entirely true but even if it is doesn't make the story any more rags to riches. His parents paid for both he and his younger brother to go to Winchester College - no small outlay of course which is impressive.

I can't speak for him, but it's going to be interesting. I have no doubt that many 1st generation brits would bow to the leader of their motherland. Whether he stands up for the interest of the UK over the needs and wants of Modi will be very telling.

He was already rejected by Conservative members, so he has to find away to convince them that he is truelly British

If the reports are correct it's 46k per annum per child. So that's a disposable income of 92k after taxes, add other cost of living expenses and take into account this was 80s/90s. His parents must have been extremely well off to afford that.

Rishi says some difficult decisions are going to have to be made. I wonder if it'll be the billionaires having to make sacrifices or the working class?

Sorry, I should have made it clearer. Really thinking about influence of his wife’s family and their closeness to the Modi regime.
I really have no problem with his Britishness.
After all quite a few members of the Tory party individually seemed to do well out of Russian donations. It’s just a fresh money source that will now be made available.

Winchester is just under £34k per child for day students.

A GP could earn the equivalent of £100k/year if they did out of hours visits to patients homes etc.

A Pharmacist with their own practive would be earning at least £60K-£70k in the SE of England in todays money.

The school fees would take up about 55% of their disposable income at todays prices. I suspect there would have be few luxuries in the household and no holidays.

In the last 30 years private school fees have risen faster than salaries, so it would have been a bit easier then the finance the fees.

His parents would have been at the bottom end of incomes for Winchester children.
