Sultanas in curry

No weirdness here. Along with mam's homemade curry we had a center plate of cut banana , apple chunks and sultanas and maybe 1 more fruit or might have been coconut flakes but can't remember. This stemmed from my Dad having spent 18 months at the end of the war going along the Indian coast on minesweeper duties, but there were loads of Indian nationals on the boat as regular seamen and this is how they made the curry go further , supposedly.

My mam's 1980s currys were onion fried up with roast chicken leftovers, tinned plum tomatoes, sultanas and curry powder. Soy sauce to go with the rice for some reason.

Thought I was in the presence of a supernatural alchemist the first time I went out for a proper one.

Our Mam's homemade chicken curry in the 70s used to be accompanied by sliced banana, chopped iceberg lettuce, chopped tomatoes and salted peanuts.
I remember the Vesta curries too, always ready in the cupboard for when I got in from the Stockton Arms.

I have never seen a curry with sultana’s in it, this sounds all a bit odd, although I do like Coronation Chicken sandwiches

Vesta Beef Curry. It was pobably regarded as adventurous in those days. They even showed you how to set it up on the plate, rice round the outside and curry in the middle.
First thing I learned to 'cook' for my first tea when I was 8. First tea was straight after school, second tea was when mum and dad got home from work.
