Stonemasons at the Riverside

Clough has got the best significant goals per game record of any striker in our history, he's our third highest scorer too.

It obviously has to be tempered with the fact it was all in the second tier, but he's still a very significant figure in the club's folklore.

The fact he was also from Middlesbrough and was one of the most famous managers in the British game only helps.

Obviously George Camsell is the player that most deserves a statue, he's always going to be our record goalscorer.

What did he win with the 200 goals?

Derby and Forest is the teams he won things for, leave the statues to them.
Hence why he left the club.
He was scoring a hat trick and the defence were letting in four at the other end. He tried to get a grip as captain, many of the players rebelled, asking for him to be removed.
Clough also pointed a finger at Boro players betting against the team. One player a keeper Esmond Million was found guilty. Others would fall foul of authorities later in their career.

Your just being pedantic with that reply and sounding desperate to have a hero.

I'm 29, he stopped managing when I was 1 year old, I don't see him as a hero at all.

From everything I've watched and read about him, he was an ****.

I just think he's entirely worthy of a statue because of his record with the club, his link to the town and yes, his total career.

No more than Robbie Mustoe and no one is shouting to have one built of him. What about Slaven, he scored more important goals than Clough.

I’m 61 this year and liked Cloughy’s outspoken mannerisms and think he should have been given the England managers job., but no way should a statute be built or added to the Riverside of him. Many more worthy players before him.

He was best liked by other players at the club , coming from my friend who played with him at that same time …although my friend was one of the reserves or trainees

sorry, that’s should of said ‘ wasn’t’

I'd have a statue of Bernie Slaven, he's a key part of our history.

Or at least a mural of the 1986-89 period, as Slaven wasn't the only one.

Don’t you think that (mural) would be more in keeping than a statue of Clough? I would even chip in for that.

The statue of Clough is already made though, it's just whether we move it from Albert Park to the Riverside.

No reason we can't have both.
