Still Project Fear

Prior to the whole brexit story there was I think a strike or something by the french authorities and I was fortunate enough to be driving the other way down the motorway but I saw this and it is not pretty. I think they call it “the stack” but it is literally hundreds and hundreds of lorries at a standstill for miles and miles along the motorway - they would literally take days to get across.

At the start when May was PM there was talk of overflow capacity to avoid this however I have never heard anything since but if not resolved it will be horrendous!

There will be disruption deal or no deal. The "worst case scenario" of 7000 lorries in a queue isn't that likely because I don't imagine that any sensible logistics operator would blindly send a load off on a journey over the border without, what they think is, the right paperwork in place.

The problem with that is no-one knows what the "right paperwork" is and the necessary IT is not in place (and not likely to be in place by the end of the year).

You're right in what you say, especially the IT has no chance at all of being in place by the end of the year. I reckon there'll be a stockpiling spree before the end of 2020 and then companies will feel out the new situation for a few weeks in the new year.
I'm definitely not saying it won't be a complete mess :)

There will be disruption by the very nature of brexit.

the litmus Test will be how long the disruption goes in for, with the gvts track record of late it could be some time!

There is already a dedicated lane for 'Operation Stack' on the M20 to dover that goes past Maidstone etc, a mate of mine lives in a small town near there and has had problems in the past. not sure if it'll get worse, but if wouldn't be great for people living in the area if it did.

I live in Ashford, it's going to ruin my town. The M20 is ruined again

Have you asked people in your town, which largely voted for Brexit I think, why they voted for this? They all knew what they were voting for didn't they?

I see the new requirements for the right paperwork for the channel crossing means the govt are going to stop people even entering the county. Lol, we've gone from freedom of movement throughout Europe to two new internal borders in the UK.

If you watch the clip Eustice is clearly saying if their is an issue at the EU side when people get there, then it is their fault, which it would be. Our end, our fault, EU end EU's fault

The narrative above the clip is a little naughty in it's suggestion.

What rot. He is clearly blaming the EU.

It is not the fault of the EU if our lorries turn up at Calais with the wrong/insufficient documentation because UK companies have been left to pick up the pieces by an inept government who have totally failed to prepare for the no-deal exit that they told everyone would never happen.

We have a couple of large council estates and are surrounded by farmland and villages full of old dyed in the wool tories. It's pointless getting into political debates with 90% of the people around here. They'll blame Barnier or Merkle or Corbyn when the new lorry park gridlocks Junction 10a and 10b, the main route out of Ashford.

Not sure who is more full of bs, you or Eustice.

You clearly have had no interest at all in understanding one of the most fundamental and important consequences of Brexit. Reading the rest of the thread would be a start.

Here is another one. It’s unfortunately from a highly rated Trade expert, but it’s short and I think it conveys her despondency and exasperation at where we are after 4 years.

Brexit means Kexit!
