Steve Vickers

Player of the season first season at The Riverside. True.
IMHO a much better player than Whyte, Fleming, Whelan, Morris and Blackmore and others he shared defensive roles with when Pearson was injured as he sadly so often was.
He was a good player and is a smashing bloke - I have the pleasure of calling Steve a friend. He has some brilliant tales of very varied times for MFC.

Yep, agree with all that

Mr Ordinary.
When the rest of them were spunking their money on Astons and Lambos Steve Vickers drove around in a Mondeo.
An absolute gent of man, a family man and you couldn't find anyone as modest.

He had a cracking season 95/96 there was talk of an England call up at one point I think?

Struggled badly the year after though, not sure why. Better in a back 3 than a 2 possibly? The whole defence struggled though obviously, so maybe harsh to single out individuals.

This reminds me of when we played Derby away in 96/97. Steve was partnered at the back that day with his little known cousin, Nigel. At least he was according to the Derby programme that day🤣

We could and should have won that day and, had skipper Pearson played, probably would have. Just think what those three points would have done…

Fell out with guy who used to sit in front of me in the North Stand because he used to start heckling SV as he walked onto the pitch at the start of the game.

Nice one @indeedido, be nice showing him these comments, you'll have to ask him who he was the manager of about 10 years ago

He coached Richmond Town Juniors for quite a few years, his lad and my youngest are good mates and they played together.
I had years of trailing all over Teesside and the sticks with that team and also my eldest’s team.
Happy days.

Always remember MMP announcing that Vickers was on the verge of an England call up when reading the teams out one game. Think it was 96/97.
