That Guardian report there mentioms that he got into hot water on the Christmas edition of ToTP for sporting a hitler style moustache and uniform. Although looking back at it in the video that was unfair Criticism. RIP Steve. Great entertainer.

There's two versions of that... The first I assume was perhaps deemed inappropriate. I don't know if it was ever broadcast, but you saw the likes of Arte Johnson, Freddie Starr, Spike Milligan and many others regularly wearing German WW2 uniforms/Hitler costume on the telly in the 70s. (The Tomorrow People's most memorable episode too!)
Steve's got the little tache and a swastika armband on (pixellated here).

Indeed, Milligan and Starr took the p out of Hitler and it was hilarious. Freddie Starr’s Hitler in particular, with his underpants with swastikas on....Hitler would have gone crazy with anger if he had seen that.

As for a The Producers, I always remember Mel Brooks picking up an award for the stage show and giving the usual speech thanking everyone from the lead actor to his postman and concluding with; “ Most of all I wish to thank Mr Adolf Hitler.....for making this particular Jew an extremely wealthy man!”

As for the Hitler reference - kudos to anyone who take the ****, but remember that the Swastika has ancient beginnings of divinity, well-being and spirituality from various religions. It was hijacked by the Nazi's as their emblem.
