Steffen: Keep or Dump?

City signed him from Germany didn’t they? I think City will want too much for him, wages will be prohibitive and clubs with far deeper pockets will be in for him.

Apart from these factors we might be in with a chance!!!!
City only signed him for £6m and he played for them twice. Not sure how they can ask for anywhere near what they paid for him being honest.

Does he want to live to Germany?
Well he already has, so I doubt it would be a problem. With the name "Steffen" does he have German antecedents?

I'd love to keep him, been a big supporter of his all the time he has been here, he's a top keeper. But perhaps he will move elsewhere for his first team football. Good luck to the lad.

Got a German tattoo
Wikipedia: “Zack Steffen has the phrase "forever my family", as well as four German words, tattooed on his rib cage in honor of his four younger siblings.[6]

He's already done it "again", he was at SC Freiburg in season 2015-16 and then Fortuna Dusseldorf 2019-20

Anyone know the answer to whether he has German ancestors?

It's his step-dad's surname, so maybe not biologically.

Though a quarter of people in Pennsylvania have a German ancestor, so his mother might be anyway.

Has he suddenly become, Dino Zoff, Sepp Maier, Lev Yashin and Peter Shilton all rolled into one? FFS, some people need to get a grip. He is not even close to being as good as Mark Schwarzer or Jim Platt. (Why isn’t there a shakin head emoji still) 🤦🏻

Yeah we all get that. We also get that we aren’t a Premier League club who can attract a top level keeper. For the way we play and the budget we have I believe we will struggle to attract a better option who is more suited to how we play.

We were not a Premier league club when we attracted Randolph and despite his flaws, he was a decent enough keeper. Henderson may possibly be doable and he IS far better than Steffen. City want to sell Steffen, sadly for Boro and some fans, it wont be on ebay, neither will his wages.

I’m wondering who is in the “keep him” camp? At £80k a month I’m sure there’s better out there for that price plus that kind of salary is probably more reserved for a Prem player who is actually playing in the top division. Personally I’d not want him back, as I think he’s overrated and makes too many unforced errors.
Definitely keep him if we can. The salary is irrelevant he wants to leave City and won't get that elsewhere

So Boro can outbid every team in Europe can we 🤣
Nobody has said that, but what we can do is offering him a route out of city, play very week, and a pay rise if he gets us up that will outbid any european side that is currently interested.

We won't be favourites to sign him, but we certainly aren't out of the running just yet.

The trouble is we play in a very fashionable way. Look at Southampton. Premier league team for the last few years and they've brought in a bloke who has not achieved anything of note on his managerial career, just because he plays possession football. The type of players we want are going to be in demand. Steffen is going to be in demand. I'm expecting bigger fish to be in for him. Brighton perhaps.

And unfortunately neither will Henderson. He's on £110k a week at United (allegedly) and Forest picked up 100% of his wages this season. United aren't going to agree to pick up 70-80% of his wages next season, injury or no injury this season. And not a chance of a permanent deal.

Pears was over rated to be fair, if you watch the video to his season in the top flight it was a horror show from him. Was superb the two seasons previously. tTop tier two player not quite up to top flight.

Schwarzer is the best keeper we have ever had and by some distance he was a world class keeper
Steve Pears was excellent from 1983 to 1988 - eventually didn't he get a England B cap, like Mogga.

If we can't get Steffan for £25k/week - I might have a go for Randolph - third choice at West Ham. I thought Randolph was a bit better than Steffan.
