Starmer - Britain's Trump

I keep thinking that I am going to wake up in deckchair in the garden on a summer's day, with my mum handing me a cup of tea and realise that it was all a dream. And she will say: "No son, this is the dream, you are really living in Starmer's Britain (apologies to Monty Python).

Can you believe this article by Andrew Marr in the supposedly left wing New Statesman:

Starmer has a Trumpian vision apparently. In addition to punishing pensioners and the disabled, making half the NHS workforce redundant - he wants to get rid of the civil service and judicial review.

"And Starmer, the former public prosecutor, is not ready to confront the problem of judicial review, which makes it harder for ministers to take decisions and has had a chilling effect across Whitehall. He will get there, but not yet."

The "problem" of judicial review? Scary stuff. Apparently it would be a good thing if governments could just do what they like, even if it means breaking the law. Is it just me or are we rapidly descending into fascism.

What…
Have you even read the article?

Maybe judge him on what happens and the impact rather than running off with all sorts of assumptions.

You missed off
‘None of this changed his domestic priorities, set out in the “missions” and last summer’s election campaign’

That will include the NHS priority (make half of them redundant…. Jaysus)

‘The Downing Street view is that the gap between public and political class has got ever wider, with voters feeling that elected leaders have lost political control over crime, education and much else, and that this is about state failure’

‘At this point a hefty dose of scepticism is appropriate. Leaders of right and left have said similar things throughout the past century’

So, in answer to your question - it’s you (and no doubt others like Owen Jones)

Your clickbait OP is just pish poor

We've been descending into fascism every week for the last twenty years according to fmttm. Would someone please portentously roll out the first they came for the lumberjacks poem.

Btw most judges are absolute arsepieces. The sooner they are replaced with AI the better.

Jaysus indeed!

You take this seriously....seriously?

You really have been drinking the Starmer Kool aid.

You just list any credibility with the drinking the kool aid jibe
That’s what Trumpians use all the time so your debating skills just hit their standards

It won’t satisfy critics who want a vision based on socialism or religious faith which uses high rhetoric and promises an eventual utopia.

What's Marr on about here? Don't think I'm aware of Starmer’s religious critics? Is it a fluffy way of talking about the EDL rioter types from last year?

There will be a butchery of regulatory bodies,
At any rate, here is Starmerism.

Sounds like toryism. At least nobody can say they're surprised I guess. Plenty have been pointing out what Starmer’s Labour are all about for years.

Clearly I have ruffled a few feathers and some posters seem to be confused as to my political direction of travel. Apparently I am Owen Jones, Kemi Badenoch and Reform. A strange combination. I find some of the comments very surprising. Lets just state a few facts about Starmer's Labour.

He lied to get the leadership and then booted out anyone who disagreed with him.
He instituted a three line whip on the issue of winter fuel payments and removed the whip from those who voted with their consciences
He is actively supporting a genocide in Gaza. This includes the RAF flying secret missions over Gaza, without any parliamentary oversight.
He has not attempted to repeal undemocratic and authoritarian laws introduced by the Tories, including the draconian restrictions on protests - a basic democratic right
And worse he has politicised the police force so that they arrest anyone protesting against Israel.
The police are using the Terrorism Act to arrest and harass journalists who criticise Israel.

There is so much more, but I running out of patience - none of this should need saying.

He is so right wing he is doing things that even the Tories wouldn't do.

As for jibes I think am more sinned against than sinning.

Is any of that actually true though? The fact you mention secret missions is interesting. How do you know about them if they are secret? Do the police arrest anyone who protests against Israel? Which journalists have been harassed.

I'm not saying you're a liar but I fully suspect you ARE lying here

Pointless explaining your position like that on here, they don't wanna hear it.

If you don't understand the difference between "NHS England" and the NHS workforce, I'm not sure you're really qualified to be providing commentary on this.

I don’t usually post on the political topics but I work in Leeds and there have been pro Gaza anti Israel marches every Saturday for the last 6 months with no arrests. So this seems widely untrue.
