Stadium Microphone/Sound system

The PA on Saturday sounded like the teachers in Peanuts. No idea what Juninho was saying at half time. He looked happy to be there though, at least.

Agree with more EDM in the buildup, was nice to hear William Orbit's Adagio for Strings (or was it Tiesto's? Honestly the PA system was AWFUL) but in memory of Cardiff 2004 I think we should always play Strings for Yasmin before kick off, too

(Yes I know the dirties use/used it as their run out music)

Yes, read out both teams and subs if possible. If not have them listed on the screen at kick.off
While your at it get them to put the teams and subs on the big screen as part of the feed loop throughout the game So I can see who is on the bench and who the opposition is. Much more useful than video from the match with a 2 second delay

That guy still does it. He announces the goalscorer that quickly that the ball is still in the process of hitting the net. Atleast he gets on tele a lot!
And he has the deepest voice in the world - sub bass beyond the scope of any sound system.

Does anyone use the Fan Zone before or indeed after matches ? With 12.30 kick offs then pausing for a pint afterwards could become a feature.
What do people think of the mix of live chat/interviews and live and recorded sounds Gary P plays?

We use it when the weather allows, before the game never stayed after. How come they stopped putting bands on?

Can you pass over some positive feedback. I thought they nailed the friendly/family day last week, I took my 4 year old and he loved the whole day

The idea of letting the atmosphere build organically is nice in principal, but the reality is it almost always leads to it being totally flat. Not enough people in seats pre kick off etc…

My suggestion would be:
1. Turn the volume down in general
2. Continue with responsive volume control that works pretty well in the big games (ie. Turn the music down/off when home chanting begins)
3. Run the pre match music/video sequence earlier and leave a 5 minute gap before teams come out, when people are in seats to let the natural atmosphere build, before the teams come out

Feedback:

Positives:

- The video montages pre match have been brilliant the past couple of seasons. More of the same please.
- HT pens. An institution to be kept.
- I also like the music medleys they’ve produced at the end of the games where it mixes songs used by the fans for our player songs. Good touch.

Negatives:

- Goal music IMMEDIATELY the ball hits the net. I’d rather celebrate and EIO.
- We underutilise the big screen. Get short player interviews up. Play recent highlights and past games but with volume. Show HT player interview. Also with volume up as hard to hear anything shown on big screen.
- Remove the awful quiz and distorted image nonsense. Just announce HT Jackpot, interview player with connections to both teams, and show kids penalties at HT.

One final question regarding pre-match. As we are a Championship club I prefer to watch the early Championship kick offs in the concourse pre-match as it affects us but I noticed last year it mostly showed the early PL game. May not be everyone’s choice but I’d prefer if the club prioritised Championship games, albeit that’s my opinion.

At least with Pigbag its works like a air raid siren going in WW2 - its a signal to clear the bars and get to your seat to fans in the concourses - producing a sort of auto-response from drinkers, based on 25 years of conditioning. A signal so strong it can't be resisted by a Boro brain even it tries.

I used to like that Woo-hoo (5 to 6 seconds from a Blur song I think) straight after a Boro goal - played in the late 1990s. Can someone help me out.

If Aidan Morris scores, can we please have a blast from Born in the USA track sung by Springsteen.

EIO after a goal, works better for me away from home, when the Boro fans are concentrated in a tight area usually and younger etc

Talking of Pigbag - look out for a hopefully interesting Pigbag interview in Fly Me To The Moon on Saturday. Someone you hear every Boro match speaking to us for the first time.

John has been sent this thread to read.
He found some interesting ideas here - though we should point out it is several years and never in John's time that "goal music" has been played,

The Big Screen will be utilised much more this season - one of the tasks of the new marketing manager/
Gary P will be coming inside as well as outside the stadium - but he wants to strike a balance and they do not want to drown out the fans and want to work with us.
Big matches - it has now become accepted for the fans to build the atmosphere without PA build up/
12th man as well as Red Faction have plans for Saturday - there will be flags available to use in North Stand - contact Red Faction for details.

Different kick off times - should mean different routines, if that is possible - but maybe more call for people staying behind in the stadium/fanzone after a 12.30 kick off.
Idea that each match needs a fresh approach depending on opposition, kick off time, day of the week, prevailing weather and the result (for after match).

The PA will be adjusted from Saturday;s quiet show.

Great news

Nothing gets the crowd going like Pigbag.
