THE FAST growing company behind one of the region’s most unique leisure brands has unveiled plans for a temporary scheme in Middlesbrough.
(PRESS RELEASE)

Danieli Group, which is responsible for STACK Seaburn in Sunderland and recently revealed its planned schemes for Newcastle, Durham and Bishop Auckland, has this week submitted a planning application for a Teesside site.

And if successful STACK Middlesbrough will be in place for three years, in the arcaded undercroft of the A66 flyover adjacent to Exchange Square, creating around 115 jobs.

The proposed scheme will be constructed using 25 shipping containers, designed around a central plaza with seating surrounded by five street food vendor outlets and three bars.

In keeping with the STACK’s commitment to a complete entertainment experience, a stage is also part of the plans, which will be used for live performances and events.

If planning permission is granted, work will get under way immediately, with the hope of being open for Easter 2023.

The company also operates the highly successful Hadrian’s Tipi which will also be set up on the site with its own bar for the three year duration, with a regularly changing theme to reflect key dates on the calendar.

The new development comes after Danieli Group also showcased it plans to roll out nationwide, with schemes in both Lincoln and Carlisle recently announced.

This will be the second investment by the Group in Middlesbrough, following on from its proposal to transform the former Banking Hall at Commerce House at the corner of Exchange Square, into a new branch of its pan-Asian restaurant, The Muddler.

Neill Winch, CEO of Danieli Group, said he was delighted to be able to announce further investment in the town.

“We have a very strong growth strategy for STACK and have announced a number of new sites in recent months,” he said.

“We are very happy at the prospect of a pop-up scheme in Middlesbrough which, if successful, will be in place for three years.

“Given the rapid expansion of the brand, we would also hope to identify a site for a permanent STACK in Middlesbrough in the long term.”

Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: “Amazing things are happening really quickly in this key gateway to Middlesbrough.

“STACK will be a fantastic addition to Exchange Square which has been given a new lease of life.

“Our historic station is currently undergoing a £30 million overhaul, while other new arrivals include The Muddler and Bloom.

“That speaks volumes about the confidence investors have in Middlesbrough right now – and we’re only just getting started.”

Regular updates on the scheme will be available via STACK’s social media @stackmiddlesbrough

Great news for the town in my opinion. The town needs a new injection of life from somewhere.
With Bloom opening and the plans for the new Pan Asian, the location makes sense.

great idea, terrible placement.

No one wants to spend any time in that area of the town.

I really hope its a success.

Because of Middlesbrough College and Sixth Form it is a busy part of town again. When the new station entrance and offices open next year that will make it even busier. There have been a few other businesses opening along Albert Road also lately as well as Bloom restaurant.

Trouble is if you don't put things there no one will ever want to go there. To get people to go to that part of town you have to put things there that people want to go to, like this, the muddler, bloom etc

It used to be busy down there but things went away; see it as a good thing that stuff is going back there now

My experience of Bloom was sort of been there done it wont be rushing back. Can see a lot of people being like that.

There seems to be plans for more investment down there. It's been screaming out for it for years. It makes sense with it being close to the train station.
Hopefully this is the start of a good thing.

The Bedford/Baker St hype has died down, the town needs an injection of life.

I just wonder if their is enough disposal interested income to support all the places up Linthorpe road, Bedford Street and Exchange square.

Probably not but the places that are already open are struggling anyway. People are already turning to alternative locations (if they bother going out at all). Yarm and Norton are far busier than the town.
The new venues around exchange square will be good for the town.

If the council close down their Events Team as per the recommended budget cuts then will it be possible to run an Orange Pip Market? Could Stack replace Orange Pip?

Personally, i can't see it being viable.
I don't think it will generate new business, but I do see it adversely affecting existing businesses.

This winters cost of living crisis is going to decimate our hospitality sector, even without new players low rent pop ups.

Watch the shutters come down on many of the small independent hostelries. And the thing I don't like about national, out-of-town businesses, is that their profits are not reinveted into the area. Rather support local folk as best I can.

Would be a massive shame to lose Orange Pip. Haven't been for a few months but always enjoy it when I do go.
It's about the only time actually venture into town these days.

Yeah, Orange Pip is a huge asset to the town.

Am NOT trying to start a rumour, by the way. The Scrapping of Middlesbrough Events Team is one of the proposed budget cuts that the public are to be consulted on. I was warning people that I don't see how Orange Pip can continue without a council team to book the stalls and organise it in advance and on the day.

What other events do the Events Team get involved in currently?
