.Down loaded Spotify on the 3 mth trial.
Got the book "1001 albums to listen to before you die" ( not literally I hope) for xmas.
absolutely BLOWN AWAY by MAGGOTBRAIN( the track) from the album of the same name by FUNKADELIC. One of the most beautiful, uplifting electric guitar pieces I've ever heard, from a 1971 Jazz Funk band. Can't believe I've never heard it before. Listen to it by yourself, undisturbed its wonderful.

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival. What a fantastic album! Nothing like what I was expecting , ( as you've guessed Ive started the "1001 book" at 1970
Recommend the Spotify offer, got to listen to " In Search of Eddie Riff" by Andy Mackay of Roxy Music for the first time in 25 years, ( the CD is £135 on amazon!!!) again beautiful and very evocative, love it.
Come on, you've got the time ,indulge yourself and flag up any gems you find.

Keep Safe , Keep Home, Keep Positive.

my new company car has got Spotify built in, which I though was just a pointless gimmick.

A month later and its all I listen to.

Bitches Brew could be a challenging starting point for Miles. Try Kind of Blue instead perhaps (pretty sure it's also in the book).

For my money, Spotify is the greatest technological advancement/innovation in recent times. The ability to listen to (practically) any music by any musician whenever and wherever you want is staggering. For a tenner a month too.

I've had the paid for version of Spotify for a while and listen to it through the radio as I'm driving around at work. I've recently being playing podcasts on it too.

"1001 albums to listen to before you die"
Really??? Might get through two or three at the current rate of things

I might get myself a copy of that book - I love discovering a classic or two. By complete chance saw a documentary about Carly Simon's 'No Secrets' the other night, listening to that at the moment, totally not what I was expecting and loving it.

I have that book and Spotify. Might have a dabble.

And me. I've started listening to older albums mainly form the 70's when I'm in the bath for the last couple of weeks. Really enjoying albums I've not heard for ages or never heard. I need to start dipping into the book and ticking more of them off (y)

Just ordered the book on your recommendation. It's only a tenner inc postage on Amazon Prime. Not bad for 960 pages!
Interesting story re Eddie 'maggotbrain' Hazel RIP - 'The third album's title song, "Maggot Brain", consists of a ten-minute guitar solo by Hazel. George Clinton reportedly told Hazel during the recording session to imagine he had been told his mother was dead, but then learned that it was not true.' (from Wikipedia)

Read that myself jackG,and You Can feel that. I've a huge collection of music with some astoundingly emotive themes.Maggot brain is up there with them.

Recommend one of my favourite artists - Bill Nelson. With a career spanning over 50 years, his spread of styles is tremendous. Try one of his guitar instrumental albums or ambient styles. You can listen to some pieces before buying the full download:

allmusic is also pretty cool. Massive database of albums sort-able by genre, year of release and rating. Obviously the ratings are subjective but I've found some absolute gems by searching through their 5 star Jazz, Rock albums etc.
