Spike.

My favourite player when I watched Boro as a kid.
Plenty has already been said on here about his skills as a footballer. Definitely should have got more England caps IMO and maybe could have.

I was lucky enough to meet my hero last year in the Golden Lion at Osmotherley where he was staying with Jim Platt prior to an ex-players reunion. I got the opportunity to say “thanks” to him for all the pleasure he brought to me and others for so many years. He was as genuinely nice a bloke as I always knew for certain he would be.

So sad to hear of his premature passing but fortunate to have seen him play so many times.

Thank you again Spike.

Wonderful times. Great players, great football, great manager.
Absolutely loved those times. Win, lose or draw just looked forward to the next game. Not these days when results rule the roost.

My latest addition just arrived, David Armstrong England v Wales B programme

I now have Dave Armstrongs full England programme v Australia, May 1980.
3 of the 4 of his England U23's programmes
One of his 2 England B matches

Still searching for my remaining missing programmes, Portugal U23 v Portugal in Lisbon 1974 & B v USA at Old Trafford, on my 20th birthday, 14/10/1980
