Spiders

My house has been invaded the past week. Does anyone know any genuine way to stop them? Don't say conkers, that's a myth. Plus I can't hit a conker standing still so will never hit a moving spider.

They are everywhere and getting bigger each year.
I was told by a joiner that the best way to limit the 8 legged beasts is to go round every room and put sealant between the skirting and floorboards, to seal any cracks where pipework comes up, and seal under window cills. It will reduce their routes of entry, but some will always get in. You can get smoke bombs for the loft too nowadays, but you need to be careful when opting for that method.

Personally, I just hoover them up and release them outside, ideally nearer someone else's house 😉

We (fingers crossed) got all of ours in mid august. We had 6 in a week, including two shot from under the sofa 5 minutes apart. Luckily my missus deals with them. Glass straight over the top of them, we've not had any since, apart from one that was in the nook where our fridge is in the top corner of the ceiling, i left it there for mental training though it's dissapeared now. Years ago when I was an intern, I lived in a house with other interns. I'd gone to bed one night and kept hearing random shrills every so often from my male housemates. When I went down stairs the next morning there were three glasses all with house spiders underneath. I went up to see them (their bedrooms were both in the attic) and there was one in the hallway separating their rooms and another in one of their rooms itself. Glad I went to bed early that night!

Shooting spiders is a bit over the top.

I met my daughters boyfriends parents last year. When I got up to leave I put my jacket on and there was a big spider on my shoulder. I screamed like a girl and danced round the room like a nutjob. I left a good impression I think.

The puddle of drool you sometimes have on your pillow in the morning is usually caused by Spiders lowering themselves into your mouth from the ceiling overnight.

When I was a teenager a went to nana's house out in the sticks to see her. Me and my dad sat on a sofa which never got used and one ran out from under the cushion, made a policy right there to avoid underused seating options at all costs!

I used to have quite bad arachnophobia, but having recently returned to the UK after 2 years in Brunei on Borneo I haven’t seen a spider in my house that’s bothered me... there’s a couple of beasts in the garage but they’re nothing on the jungle huntsmen I used to have to wrestle out there. Even with a fear I’d always rescue spiders, but from the first one I saw in Brunei they all got the flip flop, they’re too big and very fast!
