Spanish Property

How hard is it to get a Visa, say if you're working for a UK company, but remotely in Spain, or would you have to be working for a Spanish company/ would they even want you/us doing that?

Going house share would be the sensible way when you can only spend half the year there.
Two budgets would get a much better place as well.

Problem is if doing 3 month on 3 month off, someone doesn't get away in winter, and someone else does, unless you off set it, change frequency to every 2 months, or rotate the timings over a number of years.

Could get fighting over dates? Some people have different priorities though.

I'd want my 3 months in Dec-Feb, but be back in UK for Crimbo, want June/ July/ August in Uk, and April/May/ Sep away etc.

Had a place out on Costa Blanca for a while loads of variety from very ex-pat, to largely Spanish, same on costs can pick up something nice from ÂŁ60/70k to ÂŁÂŁÂŁ, if you are considering buy best get it right as costs are very high, somewhere between 10-15% on top.

Covid permitting we should hopefully be doing 2 months out there at a time next year, not ideal going backwards and forwards but works out ok for us to do it that way.

If Covid ever leaves us, I am planning 4 months a year in Goa when I retire. You can’t buy though but rents for long stay can be very cheap, plus the food and guaranteed sunshine are great for old bones. Not planning to retire for another 10/12 years yet though.
Which part of goa do you fancy, we used to go to north goa at first, then started going to the south, much quieter and a hell of a lot cleaner.we will probably do the same, about 4 months.

Anywhere apart from Baga and Calungute. As long as I am 15 minutes or so from the coast that would be fine although somewhere basic near the sea would be great.

We are in Villamartin in between Alicante and Murcia. Get over as often as we can. Lovely place no regrets at all buying there even though we don’t play golf. Good mix of nationalities and the locals still appear to be much friendly despite our divorce 👍🏽

as long as you meet the criteria it’s not a problem as long as you are happy to spend at least 183 days in the country and pay tax there

We have a place in Carvajal, it’s in between the very British Benalmadena and Fuengirola, but is pretty quiet and has a couple of great restaurants. It’s on the train line from Malaga so really easy access too.
It’s worth reading up on how long you can stay, community fees, IBI and other tax requirements etc so you’re fully informed. Feel free to send a message if you’ve got any questions
I spent a fortnight at Carvajal just before the wife and I got married, we've been married 35 years in December and both of us loved the place. It was very quiet 35 years back, with just a few apartment blocks overlooking the beach.

We did drive through it in a taxi but couldn't get our bearings, seemed to have changed a lot. There seemed to have built a road right through to Benalmadena where previously it was a dead end.

How long have you been there?

7 years now, although I only use it for holidays. My mum spends a reasonable amount of time there.
There’s been lots of development in the last few years so I’m sure it’s changed a lot over the years! Los Marinos Jose is still going strong, probably the best seafood restaurant you’ll ever find

I've been looking at property in France but my intention was to move out there permanently - I wonder what happened to that idea.

When things started to open up after the first lockdown, the wife and I were in France and we went to see an estate agent about viewing a property in the area we both like. Now you have to picture this, the wife and I speak very little French, the estate agent was Spanish and he didn't speak any English and we are all trying to converse in French wearing masks.

It was the hardest hour I have ever put in.

Spent a fair bit of time working in spain but i have always preferred the thought of a place in france. Isnt property generally cheaper in france as well

You can get a lot for your money in France but like anywhere, some places are more expensive than others. The property seems to be a lot cheaper in the Dordogne region at the moment but that could be to do with a lot of Brits selling up because of Brexit. Myself, I tried to avoid the areas where the Brits are and immerse myself into the French culture and wouldn't want to live in 'Dordogneshire.'

Have a look at houses on this site.
