Tony Fox’s talk 'I sing of my comrades' - Stockton's Brigaders.

A military coup in July 1936, supported by Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany, threatened the Spanish Republic. In response, men and women from over fifty countries volunteered to serve in the Spanish Republican Army or medical services. In September 1936 these volunteers were organised into the International Brigades; where they were grouped by nationality. Men from Britain, Ireland and the Commonwealth served in the 16th 'British Battalion' of the 15th International Brigade.
International Brigade Memorial Trust member Tony Fox tells the story of the Brigaders from Stockton-on-Tees, who fought and died to defend Spain from Fascism and a plan for a memorial to these local men.
