On Andrew Marr. They have moved from over 900 cases a day to 70. They had no lock down , schools stayed open. They tested tested and tested again, over 280,000 tests.

She said that the WHO needs to ensure its words do not create panic.

Without doubt the most sensible opinion I have heard.

I thought there was a partial lockdown? Regardless thanks for that. Gives us hope that we are doing the right thing. It’s also good to see the countries hit first emerging out of the other side.

What bit if ‘testing, testing, testing’ are we doing?
The evidence suggests we are a million miles away from doing the testing they did

I said basically the same in another thread - testing and catching and treating early leads to less deaths. Testing costs money so we aren’t going to bother doing many

I meant the lack of lockdown. Maybe we should be doing more testing?
Seems to be the key to containing the virus. In Taiwan anyone could get tested with less than 24 hours turnaround. Infected people quickly isolated.

Hopefully Matt Hancock's comments regarding moving away from herd immunity as main focus suggest a change in policy.

Testing has to be cheaper than closing the country down.

I think this is apolitical they make decisions on best medical advice, I hope someone has had a call to South Korea

No.

They have carried out more tests than anywhere in the world and quarantined based on the results. We haven’t.

They quarantined those arriving into the country from infected areas like China. We haven’t.

They stopped public gatherings in certain affected areas. We haven’t.

They shut schools for an extra week whilst they got it under control. We haven’t.

I just don’t believe it is apolitical I’m afraid.
Personal view - they are trying to find a balance.

The leading viral expert (dealt with Ebola and others) has been on SKY today saying ‘pace’ is everything and spending time waiting for ‘right time’ is folly.

And this morning

However, rather than learning from other countries and following the WHO advice, which comes from experts with decades of experience in tackling outbreaks across the world, the UK has decided to follow its own path. This seems to accept that the virus is unstoppable and will probably become an annual, seasonal infection.
