Sontje Hansen

He specifically said exactly that, yes, on a TikTok post of a Hansen fan account highlights reel from his time at NEC.

Prepared to stand corrected on this, but I've not seen anything from him other than showing that he'd like to play more. Wrong way to go about it, but not in itself a bad thing to want.

Good god if he is an impact sub then I’m not sure what our current starting 11 forward players are . They are about as impactful as a sponge hammer

He does have a few moments of impact he can point to off the bench: Millwall and Preston away being the obvious examples. Since then, he's mostly been limited to 5 minute opportunities until Monday, where I thought he looked ok.

I think based on comments from Hellberg it’s clear that him and Sene haven’t been the best in training but have improved massively recently. Maybe the international break brought them some perspective and spending time with friends and family etc. anyway I don’t see either of them starting but possibly coming on from around 65th minute to stretch defences. Strelic makes some very strong moves, holds the ball up well and can see a pass. I would stick with him. He just needs to stop going wide looking for the ball. Stick in the middle. I don’t like Conway wide left but Hellberg seems to like his work rate.

UTB.

He essentially made the equaliser. It was his perfect control and quick, direct pass that led to a ball being able to be played into Brittain. It was a small thing at first glance but it was a vital contribution imo. He didn’t fanny about, he trapped it and laid the ball off instantly. It makes a big difference against the dreaded ‘low block’.

Realistically the depth did not get used a lot until the past 5 games because we were top of the league 10 games ago.

Then had two poor draws, followed by 2 good wins using the shortened squad we had used all season.

We have then had 5 games of losing games with a lot of chances.

Which means none of our depth has really been given a chance to show what they can do.

Sene and Hansen have barely played 45 minutes all season - maybe they are not good enough, but they were not needed until the past few weeks and the last game was their first real opportunity in the run of poor form.

Sene has two goals this season so he has contributed, the one at Southampton earned us a point. If we’re pointing to specific things at the end of the season then how important may that prove. Likewise Brynn’s penalty save against Ipswich.

I’m surprised Sene and Hansen haven’t had more opportunities to play. I was encouraged by both of them on Monday, particularly Hansen, as I think they just brought a little bit of freshness to the team that we haven’t had in recent weeks.

Edwards was using Sene late on in games when it was tight and the opposition pushed up, leaving space for Sene to run into and cause chaos. We don’t really see that sort of space any more as opponents now just sit on their own box and let us play in front of them. Maybe Sene just doesn’t fit into what Hellberg wants to do. Who knows.

And I posted this a couple of weeks ago, but people forget how much some were raving about Sene in the first few weeks he was with us. To the point where Kieran Scott was directly asked about him in an interview and he said “you’re getting a lot of footballer for your money there,” when the low fee we’d paid was brought up. The consensus was positive.

I think it’s still a bit early to be writing off players tbh, especially younger ones who’ve moved over from other countries.

Last time I saw Sene live for any length of time, he played well. I forget which match is was, but we were comfortably ahead, and he popped in a neat finish which was disallowed due to Burgzorg drifting offside in the build up. I thought it looked liked he'd been working on his touch too.

What I've not liked about his game in the past (I think this was against Wrexham), when he played up front by himself, he seemed retuctant to try and hold the play up. He'd just flick the ball for runners who weren't there. But this is something he can improve on.

I still have his goal vs WBA down as our goal of the season.

I think it is easier to be angry and write players off because some feel better when they can blame and say "I told you so".

Systems, form and opportunity are all needed.
