Thought it was going to be a cauldron of noise but Newcastle fans were shocking for the most part. I thought it was going to be like the big nights at the Riverside under the lights x2 but it just wasn’t at all. Obviously very loud for the goals and the final whistle but other than that, really poor,

Geordie bloke at work admitted the same. Said it was great until 2-1 and everyone panicked and it went silent.

I don’t really see Newcastle as a rival tbh, or Sunderland and I’d much rather either of those won than Manchester F***ing United.

It's a tricky one with Newcastle really. It's been that long since we've played them that it doesn't feel as though there is any rivalry there any more. I bet the majority of their fans never look out for our results, and their younger fans probably won't even realise that the Tyne/Tees derby is even a thing.

At the same time though, part of me would like to see them win it, as I know how much it will devastate the Mackems.

We probably shouldn't forget though that Newcastle fans were pretty much just as bad back in the day when it came to singing those sick songs. Here's just one example of it....

Aye that’s exactly what it felt like. It was there for them to bottle it, probably a historical thing where they usually bottle situations like that so they half expected it. Southampton weren’t good enough to make them pay.

Genuinely can’t remember Boro losing many big games under the lights at the Riverside, it was a totally different atmosphere, the Riverside is always rocking on those occasions but maybe we just know how to behave in those moments and they don’t yet. Would like to see a record of Boro in later round cup games under the lights since we moved to the Riverside, I imagine it’s pretty impressive.

They were worse in my experience. It was constant all game.

Yeah, I can remember a lot of them behaving pretty badly when they last played us at the Riverside. They'd sold out the south stand and you could hear those songs being sung loudly, as well as them singing "F**k the Boro", to the tune of pig bag.

It will be weird when we play them again, because there will be a generation of their supporters who might not even be aware there is a historical rivalry between the two clubs.
