Solution to Conclude the Season...

OK Bare with me here....

If this season doesn't finish... he's my basic solution

Cancel the English League Cup next year to free up additional weekends

No relegations from any league

For the EFL all teams in the automatic promotion places go up ... that means the championship, league 1 and 2 will have the same number of teams in 2020/21

For the Premier League it would have two extra teams... so 5 would need to be relegated in the 2020/21 season

All sorts of options
A couple of challenges for you
Prem think they play enough games already but a bribe (by saying none will go down this season) may help soother that.
More importantly because of the vast sums of money involved EFL teams will fight tooth and nail againstLeeds and WBA

I think we will end up with no promotion and relegation

"Cancel the English League Cup next year to free up additional weekends "

They don't play the LC on weekends until the Semis(?) so not sure how many weekends it would free up.....

Just play the games when the current situation is over and then reschedule next year around the available dates, you could even regionalise all leagues for a season to half the league fixtures and have play off games to decide the Premier League titles, promotion and relegation would still be there to be played for and that one truncated season allows us to revert to normal thereafter.

I don't see any need to rush right now as it is more than likely that this situation will go on into what should be the close season and maybe even into August.
Get things under control and then start the season up again and play it to a finish.
With the Euros being off there is plenty of scope to work in the end of all the domestic leagues across the continent.
What is more important is that the big clubs should be looking at helping tide over the others until they can start earning revenue again.
I think it was the Hartlepool chairman on this morning who said each home game is worth about £25k to them. Peanuts in PL terms.
Voluntary redistribution of wealth and football as a microcosm of societies wider problems all in one.

I seem to remember that the League Cup - especially the final - brings in over 50% of revenues into the EFL pot. Having signed away the EFL tv rights for a song for the next couple of years if you also strip away this competition would many of the Football League clubs be able to survive?

Think AM has a point, and none of us know how long this will go on. I agree that the best option would be to get this pandemic over with first, then finish off the 2019/20 games. You could have a truncated season of 50% of the games, not play everybody home & away, just play one game against each side, IF, you can't fit all the games in given that the Euro's have been moved to 2021.

How can you move the season past the 30th June? Landscape of clubs will be much different.

Clubs aren’t in a position to extend the contracts by several weeks. Could cost boro millions when relying on contracts and sales to happen

I wonder how the tv money will work out.
If the season is not completed will the premier league be in breach of its contract with sky ,bt etc

No I know, but this is very extenuating circumstances, and calls for everybody to sit down and work through it, players, owners and all the Leagues execs (including non league as they will be affected). Whichever solution is proposed and acted upon, some people will not be happy.

You can please some of the people all of the time...................................................

Over here we have the NRL that gets most of its money from Sky and relies massively on cash flow through the season. The NRL has roughly 143 million australian dollars in its coffers, enough for 3 months running costs, then its broke.
Benji Marshall (Kiwi and plays for West Tigers) was quoted as saying no play - no pay, and he has been told that by the bosses. Be interesting to see if that went to a contract tribunal.

No of course it wont - these are extraordinary times, I'm not sure why people keep trying to imagine widespread litigation because of it. The PR alone wouldn't be worth it.

Make the season Null & Void. That way no one gets promoted no one gets relegated.
Liverpool still don’t win the league & Dirty Leeds don’t get promoted👍🏻 Works for me

If we do not play the games by the normal end of this season then we cannot finish the season because of contractual problems. If the games are not played in normal conditions with only the players who are registered now then we may as well draw lots for the results.
As for playing behind closed doors. Even if the players taking part were not subject to possibly already having the Virus, the players group assembling puts them in peril because of this disease.
The only solution is to move on and scrap this season.

I agree - this sort of approach to finish no matter how long it takes is a non starter. There has to be a point where you draw a line under this season.
If not It ruins two seasons, whereas if you void this season at least you protect next season.
