Craig Johns in the Gazette reckons that one on one save was irrelevant as flagged offside. I think he is absolutely wrong. Lino never at any point flagged, the free kick was for the foul on Clarke after the save by Sol. Proper game changing moment.

Steele didnt need more loan time or to fight for his place. He had already seen off the challenge of Brad Jones and had been first choice keeper for 3 or 4 seasons. I can't remember the circumstances around his departure but didn't see many complaints when his replacement was breaking clean sheet records.

I agree that Pears probably could have been given more of a chance. Certainly no worse than who replaced him.

Ripley wasn't good enough I'm afraid. Had loads of loan spells, was highly thought of but didn't quite step up enough.

I think this just about sums up my feelings. Steele is one that got away, that said there was a notable difference in terms of command of box when Dimi came in.

Pears is decent but not been better than Dieng or steffan. Ripley has started to carve a decent career for himself but not at championship level.

Unfortunately, after Pears left we had to endure Bettinelli, Stojanovic and Lumley before we got to Steffan.
We really struggled to replace Randolph.

Managers made choices at the time.
I think Jason Steele might have benefited from loan time and doing what Brynn has done - fight his way.
Same with Aynsley and Connor.
We've been too quick to get rid of our academy lads, paid a fortune for imports, and harmed our chances in other areas of the team.
It's a balance.
It's all about opportunities, having the right approach and not reaching for the chequebook.
In spite of having class goalkeepers in on loan.....we have only spent one year in the Premiership in 14 years.
For example: Bettinelli and Joe Lumley were no more than "average" and they cost us in terms of places in the league.
Likewise, Steffan.
Lumley's howlers were legendary, and he wasn't the only one.

Outside of a brief stint as Brighton's first choice (35 games in 7 seasons) he's been a mid-low Championship keeper either struggling himself, or playing in a struggling team every season.

Had a decent career but shows how poor we've been at producing goalkeepers in our history.

I said the same before the game, Brynn was a better fit against Millwalls style of play as they would have been expecting Dieng and would have targeted him, after that performance though Brynn has to to keep his place.
