So basically with 1/4 of the season to go

I'd be surprised if we make play offs, the stats aren't in our favour at the moment. Its going to take quite a turn around in form for us to force our way in.

We are certainly on the up improving, we'll finish in a position that certainly shows a lot of progress compared to the side that was nearly relegated last season .. but I think we ruined our chances of reaching the play-off positions losing silly home games where everyone expected three points.

It's too hard to tell how we're gonna perform game to game, I wouldn't be surprised if we beat Swansea away on Saturday. We lose against dross then go and do things like that.

I wouldn't refer to it as a 'run in to dream of' though as you have seen us losing games against the worst sides in the league and have had a dreadful home record in particular against such sides. Each game will be as tough as the next .. not writing us off as finishing in the top-six, but it would be some achievement if that happens now. I'd be surprised. It would be an unreal job if Warnock got them finishing that high after last season.

I am still expecting anything between 8th - 12th but that's still an improvement, no doubt about it. I'm more interested in how we're going to handle our business when the season ends, who goes, who comes in, and what the squad will look like going into 21/22 .. surely by then Warnock is hoping to have a side he will be confident can have a real go and will finish at least in a play-off position.
I agree with all of that.

If we did somehow sneak into the playoffs I don't see us having the quality to win a 2-leg match against the crop of teams likely to still be sitting in those positions.

Middlesbrough 0-0 Reading
Reading 0-2 Middlesbrough

Cardiff 1-1 Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough 1-1 Cardiff

We'll see whether we can beat Swansea twice this season on Saturday.

Exactly. I’d actually be pretty confident if we got in there. Just not convinced we will get in there.

Neither am I, I think it's probably a step too far after January's slip up, but we've not been outclassed by any of the teams above us and have got results against most of them.

You could point to the Brentford 4-1 loss, but I'd say that was a harsh reflection of the balance of that match.

I hate this mindset. I really do. Why follow football if you don’t want to be up there? I really don’t get it.
its a fine line between negativity and realism for some.

I 100% want promotion to the premier league, and will revel in the celebrations as much as the next Boro supporter, and like the next Boro supporter, I will be get my hopes up of a decent season in the Prem where survival will be the only aim (as it should reasonably be), just for the team to not show up week after week and for our season to shrivel up before we have really given it a good go.

For some, the mental torment and pain of a season in the depths of the Premier league will not overshadow the joys at being promoted from the Championship. For others, it might be more enjoyable to skirt with the playoffs and promotion for another season and hopefully win more games than we lose, as we hopefully build a team that could give a good account of itself in the Premier league the season after.

We are all different, and have different measures for success and failure, and thats a good thing.

Me, I would much rather see us lose at home to Man City, than see us lose at home to Rotherham.

I would be hugely surprised if Barnsley and Cardiff can keep their runs together. Stranger things have happened but I would be surprised. We haven't put a run together yet this season really and maybe we won't and if we don't then we don't deserve a playoff place.

What I would like us to realise is that any team with Howson, Watmore, Bolassie, Kebano, Tavernier, possibly Mendez-Laing and Bola is capable of playing football properly and effectively. We have an embarassment of riches in that area compared to recent years but we still lump everything 60 yards, over the heads of our strikers. We have to play to our strengths and we have to go out and take games by the scruff of the neck from the first minute. If we don't we will get picked off.

After this weekend against Preston, Bournemouth's next games are Barnsley, Swansea and us.

If we can get a result against Swansea and go on a run, we could get back in there.
