Snake oil salesman Cummings in the sh*t

This seems to have caused a bit of a stir, may I ask. Do you care about what he has done? Or more about the fact that he has been advising the PM quite successfully and this would be a good opportunity to get rid of him? Just wondering?

Anyone who has the virus who drives that sort of distance, likely 2 service station stops, stops for fuel etc, wonder how many people they passed the virus onto doing that. When you are in a position of power you cant expect to be able to get away with that.

Most of us haven't seen our parents/family/friends for 2 months so yes it is a bit frustrating seeing someone just blatantly disregarding his own rules.

Just a shame that no one is able to hold their own government to account, would imagine the reaction had been slightly different if Corbyn was caught doing something like this....

Confirmed that number 10 support Mr Cummings. The bogey man for the left acted within the rules per the government. This is gonna go into meltdown city.
Dear me. Just because he has support of number 10 does not mean his actions were correct or were justified. Especially when the incumbent is not known virtue of morality.

Some top level wriggling here to help out the board's own Teesside Tory lickspittles....

This most be a joke right? that's the must ludicrous "defence" I've ever seen.

Prosecution: "You murdered him"
Defence: "No I didn't he was alive"
"but he's dead"
"precisely, he was alive when I met him. I then stabbed him, now he's dead. No murder at any point"

Apparently genuine. We live in surreal days. The days of Who Needs Experts Anyway, Just Close Your Eyes & Believe

Wow, well none of us saw that coming.

He put a child in a car with two infected people and drove 300 miles to his parents house, breaking just about every rule in the book.
IN a rare moment of clarity: Johnson actually said in one speech "children should not be looked after by grandparents or older relatives" One assumes it was actually Cummings that wrote those words.

What a F***ing surprise.

Nearly as bad as Kunesberg you are cooper. Hundreds of people in this country have probably been in the exact same situation he was , poorly but not dying and had kids to look after too and haven't broken the "rules" or the "guidance". The simple fact of the matter is he drove from one end of the country to the other, not to drop of medical supplies or food but to palm off his kid to his parents because the slimeball couldn't cope with a bored kid whilst they were poorly.
Plus no way he drove all the way there with a 4 year old in the back, who else did he give the virus to?

Johnson must be shítting himself at the prospect of next weeks PMQs if Cummings isn’t going - expect Starmer to dissect him piece by piece on Wednesday. I really can’t see how his actions can be defended, it just makes a mockery of what we’re being told, and quite frankly why should anyone take a blind bit of notice anymore if it’s one rule for the “elite” and another for us

no PMQs until W/C 1st June as it is Whitsun break - whatever weird Oxford thing that is

Conveniently Johnson isnt appearing at PQT this Wednesday.

Gove and Sunak both tweeting support this morning.

Well I'm sorry but if it's ok for downing street to defend the indefensible then lockdown is over for me. Kids haven't seen any family in the flesh for 65 days now. It's unfair. If he is still in his position come end of business on Monday then I'm taking the kids to see the grandparents on Tuesday. **** him.

Brilliant... did I say I agreed with him? I said the government have said he didn’t break the rules. Read it again before having a pop at me and with your faux outrage

Don’t see why you need to wait if Dominic Cummings has a job or not by Monday. You could easily take your child to visit the grandparents by just driving past if you really want. Also just to add I know if i was ill with coronavirus and the mrs was my parents would insist that I took my 5 year old there to be cared for and they would run the risk. I would do the same when I get older. Just because it’s big bad Dominic the bogey man don’t tell me in the same situation your parents wouldn’t offer to help. I’d be worried if they didn’t

There is no defence for Cummings actions, none whatsoever, he has broken just about every guideline that he himself help set, and then some and they knew it was wrong, his wife’s article in The Spectator only mentions how ill he was and how he spent 10 days in bed at home whilst she watched him, they were not ill at the same time and his wife’s symptoms, in his and her own words, were mild. No mention of the 500 mile round trip to Durham which I would have thought would warrant a sentence or two at least.....just how he spoke to Johnson and the Government everyday.

He didn’t obey the guidelines on isolation, travelling long distances, using family members for childcare and visiting the elderly, which is reason enough to lose his job, we then have the situation of either he’s lied to the Government on his whereabouts or the Government have known and lied to the people of this country about his whereabouts....he’s working from home is not a statement that is ambiguous to a man that owns one property.

But beyond all the disobedience of guidelines and the lies and deceit there are further issues of morality and setting an example that a person in his position must be aware of, what kind of person knowing they are carrying a potentially deadly illness thinks it’s ok to put his parents at risk by visiting them or using their house as a bolt hole ? What legitimacy does it give laws when the person shaping them ignores them ?

If Cummings does not fall on his sword then Johnson should sack him, the examples of Ferguson and Calderwood show that if you have a position of influence you have a position of responsibility and failing to act accordingly will result in punishment, Johnson is a self preservationist and will have no qualms about casting Cummings aside if it puts his own position in jeopardy, which this will as Cummings has lost all credibility with his actions, he’s a divisive figure within the Conservative hierarchy and if Johnson fails to act many within his party will revolt.

If anybody had acted in this way I’d be extremely critical, I think any sane person would, and this has nothing to do with Cummings political ideology, its irrelevant, but a man in his position simply has no excuse, beyond arrogance, for taking the course of action he did.
