Snake oil salesman Cummings in the sh*t

Well said Steve Baker. It's really really horrible that we have to laud the one single Tory MP willing to speak out on this but that's the problem when the entire cabinet rallied round him. Absolute lack of integrity from the lot of them. How long until Baker is deselected?

That is important from Baker

The politics of this is fascinating.

This has been known about for a few weeks at least yet the story was broken just before the bank holiday weekend and in the full knowledge Johnson isn't back in parliament for 10 days.
Tory cabinet members are told to rally round and give their support
Then, a 2nd story breaks (which was clearly known about when the first)

Other facts emerging
He had other relatives living nearby in London
He would have had to stop for fuel thereby endangering other people

On a personal note I can understand taking a decision to protect your kids (I'm sure we all can).
But, to try and keep people in the dark in the hope you are not found out?
To then try and twist it to say it isn't really a problem?
To get cabinet ministers to support that?
That is the indefensible part.

Adult to adult:
'I think I did the right thing for my kid, clearly went against government guidlines and have to accept that so - its bye bye now'

The problem is the 'adult to adult' bit. This lot put £350m on a bus FFS

I agree with al of the above. I actually said on Twitter, and stand by it, that Cummings shouldn't resign. He broke the rules and he knows it but as others have pointed it he thought it was the right thing to do for his family.

I do believe, especially with the multiple trip revelations, that he should be sacked now. His complete lack of contrition when approached by the press yesterday proves him as the uncaring, selfish scumbag we all assumed.
The defence by the cabinet is something else entirely. Something much more sinister. This lockdown rules are in place TO SAVE PEOPLES LIVES. the fact almost the entire cabinet came out in defence of a man who broke those rules shows they care more about their careers than the lives of their constituents. I mean, we often assume that of high ranking politicians but here is unequivocal, unquestionable proof of that fact. They should never be allowed to forget this treachery and betrayal.

He had to go after the first trip to Durham, but the inaction after further revelations and simply claiming that they are inaccurate without detail is not good enough, the idea that this is political is a nonsense if anyone within any party behaved in this way then they quite rightly should lose there job.

According to Shapps Cummings managed to stay 2 metres apart from his child, in the car, whilst driving 260 miles:unsure:, keeping people on a train or bus 2 metres apart should be a piece of **** then (y)

So, Cumface has a Land Rover Discovery. To keep his child 2m away he would have had to put him in the boot? Surely that's a story in itself

Brilliant... did I say I agreed with him? I said the government have said he didn’t break the rules. Read it again before having a pop at me and with your faux outrage

Don’t see why you need to wait if Dominic Cummings has a job or not by Monday. You could easily take your child to visit the grandparents by just driving past if you really want. Also just to add I know if i was ill with coronavirus and the mrs was my parents would insist that I took my 5 year old there to be cared for and they would run the risk. I would do the same when I get older. Just because it’s big bad Dominic the bogey man don’t tell me in the same situation your parents wouldn’t offer to help. I’d be worried if they didn’t
What a card Coops is!

Perhaps they went in a bus with £350m to the NHS on the side.

2nd Tory MP has asked him to consider his position now. So that’s 2. Double figures by lunch time?

Simon Hoare tweeted -

‘With the damage Mr Cummings is doing to the Government’s reputation he must consider his position. Lockdown has had its challenges for everyone. It’s his cavalier “I don’t care; I’m cleverer than you” tone that infuriates people. He is now wounding the PM/Govt & I don’t like that‘

Absolutely stinks now this - conveniently Johnson won’t have to face questioning for ten days. He’ll hide away till then hoping for things to die down. What a coward - if he’s a leader I’m Norman Wisdom

🐔

Damian Collins has joined in now, so that’s 3...,

‘ Dominic Cummings has a track record of believing that the rules don’t apply to him and treating the scrutiny that should come to anyone in a position of authority with contempt. The government would be better without him.’

If anybody doubted it before it is now certain beyond any doubt who the real person running the country is and it’s not Boris Johnson. The sort of rallying around Cummings is normally reserved for a PM.

If Johnson had any guts he would do the daily briefing today (highly unlikely), also when did the daily briefing stop being so much about the virus and more of a PR stunt - 300 people have died today which is sad, but on the bright side we're widening the A66

Sophy Ridge currently going through Grant Shapps like a dose of salts.

But he only wants to talk about the A66 🤣
I do like the fact the A66 (and A1 widening at scotch corner) make it easier to get to both Barnard Castle and Durham. Do you think Cummings has done Schapps (if that is his real name) up like a kipper here by giving him a story that is so geographically close to the one he's trying to bury?
